You could be the proud owner of a vintage used 1989 Bottecchia road bicycle. Although we are uncertain of the exact model, this finely crafted, hand built Italian road racing bicycle features Columbus Cromor tubing, fine lugwork, and Columbus dropouts. The Bottechia line of road bikes was created in a partnership in 1929 between historic road racer Ottavio Bottecchia and Teodoro Carnielli, and Italian frame builder. The Carnielli brand later developed into a full blown manufacturer of bikes, employing dozens of builders, creating innovations such as the first stationary exercise bike, and remained family run until the early 1990's when the Bottecchia brand dissasociated with Carnielli and production moved from Carnielli's Vittorio Veneta, Italy factory to Cavarzere. Throughout the years numerous races were won on Bottecchia racing bikes including the Giro D'Italia in 1957, 1966, and 1979, Milan-San-Remo in 1951, Tirreno-Addriatico in 1978 and the Tour de France in 1989 (by non other than Greg Lemond).
This bicycle has plenty of character, and appears to have at some point in time been crashed. The frame appears to be straight (we do not have a table) but the fork has been replaced with a Peugeot steel fork and both wheels have been replaced. There are a couple of unfortunate dings to the top tube and some scratching throughout so we greatly advise checking out the photographs. The componentry is not consistent which leads us to believe this may have been a frame set build when it was first purchased. Among the more makeshift adjustments is the spaced out rear cassette body to accommodate the 7 speed gearing. This bicycle has not been tuned by one of our shops mechanics, but it rides great and shifts fine. Please see photographs for details.
