My husband has become allergic to meat, pork and poultry. So when his doctor said it was imperative that he eat only fruits and vegetables, I paniced. I had visions of tons of spices and ingredients that I knew he would have trouble digesting, and I would find myself chained to the kitchen cooking or chase all over town to find strange sounding ingredients. All his life he had been a "meat and potatoes" man. I searched the internet for help and information and this book was mentioned by many sources. I found this book to be just what the doctor ordered. It has basic ingredients and spices that can be bought at my local grocery store. It has helpful information to make sure you have a balanced diet. The recipes are very tasteful and most of them do not have a long list of ingredients. My husband has been very pleased with all of the recipes I've tried. It runs the gamut from every day meals to party meals. And, even more important, most of the recipes can be divided and frozen in individual servings. For the person who is new to a vegetarian diet or someone who just wants to add more healthful side dishes to their meals, this is the book to get. Am I the only one who feels cookbooks are better if they also have images of the prepared recipe meals? Because I find it easier to decide to make something if I have a visual of it. Seeing is believing, and it’s encouraging enough to make you want to make it if it looks good.

This is a great basic cookbook for the beginning vegetarian. The book is easy to read and is divided into simple section for the reader. I think the recipes are ones that could be shared with the whole family. I am a diabetic and I am trying to limit my meat intake. I am trying to collect so basic cookbooks to increase my educational knowledge about being a vegtarian. Vegetarian Times is a very reliable source of information because they have been publishing magazines for a long period of time
A great 1st vegetarian cookbook. Ingrediants can be purchased at a supermarket in the health food section. Recipes are very tasty. Is a great cook book to own if you need a healthy heart diet. I would highly recommend to purchase even if you want to have a meatless meal once in a while. The meatless dinners using soy protein in place of ground beef it is hard to tell the difference, for example the stuffed peppers. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.
