A vintage wood, alloy and brass starback 3 1/2" diameter centrepin Nottingham/trotting reel in Heaton Zephyr style. The wooden spool is 1 1/8" wide and has an alloy backplate, twin horn handles mounted in brass and a four screw alloy centre plate with milled decoration, Slater style drum latch and centre screw for adjusting play. The backplate has two rings of milled decoration and a brass starback casting incorporating the foot. It also has an "on -off" check. It has never been drilled for a line guard. As usual there are no Maker's or other marks. This reel has not been cleaned, polished or messed about with. The screw heads are all fine, there is little evidence of wear. There is a slight wobble, not serious, I have had it spinning for about 20 seconds with a good flick, cleaned and serviced it would probably run longer. The varnish is coming off the wood and the metal parts have an age patina. The handles are fine and uncracked. There are no cracks, dents, bends or other defects I have seen. This reel is, if desired, capable, with a little work by a skilled person, of being one of the best around as it is so original and not "mucked about" with. I do not have a "Buy it Now" price.
