combat patrol: United States Army

VIETNAM WAR 15 handwritten letters by an enlisted soldier from Connecticut in Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry from about the middle of 1969 to the middle of 1970, exceptional detail of combat patrols (see below for excerpts) about 60 miles north of Saigon with names of some villages and landing zones and mention of movements near the Cambodian border, excerpts from letters in rough chronological order include, "we've been in the boonies for 50 days before they took us into Quan-Loi for a 2 day rest...they hit us with RPGs, but couldn't stage a ground attack because of Cobra gunships...1 killed and 7 wounded in our company...we went through a 220 bunker complex...we read about the War Moratorium...some day I'll have to tell you about G.I.s being hit by friendly fire...left LZ Wescott...extracted to Bo Bop and LZ Jerri...moving into the jungle leaving four wounded...they really hit us...we had two killed and seven wounded by a 75mm hitting a bunker...he was trying to hit a Huey...we walked right into's safer in the jungle....the NVA must be getting ready for Tet offensive...we spent Christmas Eve on a night ambush near a trail we booby-trapped...Vung Tan on the South China Sea on a 3 day 'in country' R&R...located at what is called a floating or mini LZ about 500 metres from Song Be...the NVA are putting up another offensive...still near the Cambodian border...spotted NVA armor...intelligence reports of a supposed VC meeting near An Loc...trip wire across the trail hooked up to a claymore mine..."; all except two of the letters are removed from envelopes with some of the envelopes present with no dates so no way to match letters with the envelopes, only two of the letters have dates of years (one July 20, 1969, and the other April 20, 1970 with mention "see you in 80 days" with some previous letters mentioning days to go in Vietnam), letters well-preserved with folds for mailing in envelopes and all handwriting legible, letters come with a lifetime guarantee of authenticity, seller is a member of the Ephemera Society, get in touch if you have any questions; keywords: military memorabilia, Vietnam War ephemera, United States military history.

NOTE: Because of the problems many are having with my offering of these letters for sale--including apparently resentments of me and accusations that I am wanting to profit from the sacrifices of the Vietnam soldiers--I am not giving out the name of the soldier. The letters were purchased at a New England auction to which they had been consigned by the family which wanted to make some money from them. I am in the business of purchasing, collecting, preserving, and selling (not giving away) items of historical value and interest. The collected letters are now being offered for sale on a nonreturnable basis.
