Excellent driver in every aspect including the way it sets up, ball flight and distance. I'm a driver lover so have tried many and owned and still own many including the 2009 Cleveland Launcher which I will use for comparisons sake. The Launcher is long and very, very accurate and will not overly draw or fade with nudges in those directions. Its a no brainer for fairways hit providing you don't need to work the ball a lot like with traditional driver designs. The R7 limited can get out of hand if overly worked for draw or fade but once you know that it is easy to control. I needed a BIG cut fade on a short par 4 the other day and I was able to bend it big time contouring to the shape of the fairway with the R7. Wouldn't have been able to do as much with my Cleveland. However I think if I were playing in a tournament I would choose the Cleveland for overall control for fairways hit. The R7 is going to be a lot of fun for use in working various shot shapes even though it may get me in trouble once in awhile when I get a little carried away. It produces the normal amount of carry in relation to many other drivers but it has hot overspin when it hits the ground. This is not one of those high launch floaters that make the shot look pretty in the air but then roll out weakly to disappointing distances. With the R7 I'll go out to where the drive ended up and be suprised that its longer than usual. I'm going to really love this club!Read full review
Bought the club based on positive reviews of current owners from several different sources. My swing speed is just south of 100 so I was a little concerned that the 9.5 loft would cause a push to the right. I've been using lofts from 10.5* to 12* and was having a tough time in the wind, couldn't tee the ball low enough to make a difference. Like with most golf clubs though, put the ball where you're supposed to on the clubface and it will go where it's supposed to. Hit this one on the sweet spot and the drives are long with good roll, longer than the 905T, G5 and Snake Eyes 955 I've been playing. Mishits do travel to the right but no more than normal for me. The 45.5" length isn't a problem with a clubhead of 440cc and that shape configuration. It sets up well for me and it's appearance at setup has actually helped me get in the right position to take the club back on plane. I was a little concerned with the light shaft weight but the club is well balanced and the Matrix 5.5 has great feel to it. If my swingspeed was in the 105+ range I'd want a little more shaft but for me this one is a good match. So far it's treating me right and the only reason I'm not giving it an excellent rating is because of limited use.Read full review
I am loving this driver head so far. I purchased it to combine with an existing TalyorMade shaft from another r7 driver, regular flex. I had it put together by a local clubsmith and took it out last week for a test drive. It came from the ebay seller with the weights set up for a natural draw shot. The adjustable weight technology is really being talked about in golf magazines regarding the r7 and r9 drivers from TM. I used the club wrench to set the club straight up, meaning the 8gram weight in the center with the smaller 1gram weights on either side. On my home course, I was crushing drivers at least 20 yards farther than my old, old driver which this one replaced. It has a very solid sound and is very forgiving on off-center shots. The triangle head shape takes a bit of getting used to, but I am okay with it now and enjoying this club. Highly recommended since you can get these on Ebay at significant discounts now that the r9 is the hot item. I have heard that the r7 limited is esentially the same. Try it out and see for yourself.Read full review
I understand why TaylorMade is the #1 driver in golf. Product performs as advertised. I simply like the way the club looks at setup and the ball really comes off the face of the club like a rocket. My r7 Limited is 8.5 degree with a factory stiff shaft - great combination for me. In shopping it appeared to me that TaylorMade is really serious about their product. There is a wide variety of lofts, and shaft options that provides the buyer an almost "custom fit" club selection. In 40 years of golf I have used many different brands of drivers, and I used the original r7 quad for several years, but decided the head size of the newer models would help improve my game so I went to Nike and Titelist with some degree of satisfaction, but now I am back to stay with TaylorMade.
The R7 is am excellent club, good feel, light, and very accurate plus it looks great at address. My first use on a short course 6,000 yards I shot an even par 72 in tournament play. Hit almost all of the fairways and had an excellent flight path. I have a Callaway X Pro that I normally use, I get probably another 10-15 yards longer, but not as accurate. I may get another shaft for the R7 for extra distance but since this is a limited edition I may purchase another. This is a great purchase, not much difference than the R9 but a few hundred more for pretty much the same.
