AUBUSSON

      It is interesting to know Europeans have a long history of producing hand made rugs. One of the oldest French handmade rugs is the Aubusson. History of Aubusson rugs goes back to the seventeenth century where they graced floors of French royal palaces with documentation from Louis XIV.
      Aubusson rugs have been fashionable for centuries but have declined in production. The global recession in the late 1980?s lead to increased cost of labor, and production of the rug was hard to maintain and eventually discontinued. The technique of producing Aubusson rugs has shifted to other regions such as Asia, where they have been revived under the careful supervision of French designers and artisans.
      These rugs are primarily made on loom flat weave with high knot counts of about 300 KPSI. Aubusson rugs are often weaved as Needlepoint rugs imitating the same look and style.
      Due to limitations and high cost manufacturing, these products are not widely available in rug stores. One might come across such rare rugs in upscale galleries at high prices. Aubusson rugs are dominant in floor covering as they enhance the ambient to a royal appearance.
