Features Acotrs:Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio,Frances Fisher,Billy Zane,Kathy Bates, Jonathan Hyde,Victor Garber Running Time:194 Min. Rating:PG-13 This movie is about a romance between two young people from different backgrounds. In Rose (Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio, The Aviator), you had a romance that women could identify with, as there are obstacles thrown up to prevent true love for the couple. The most notable obstacle being class, as the early part of the century featured groups that were very structured by how much they made and what their standing in life was. In Rose's life, her mother Ruth (Frances Fisher, House of Sand and Fog) plays a huge part in it, and has virtually arranged a marriage to Cal (Billy Zane, The Phantom) that will put both women in the lap of luxury. Jack just has his sketch pad, and lives the bohemian lifestyle, enjoying every minute of it. Then the ship hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic, sinking the unsinkable ship, resulting in a massive loss of life. And Cameron's depiction of the events that led to the final hours is both vivid and unsettling. The thing that stays in someone's mind is that when compared to the real-world events. It focuses more on a romance that may work on the screen, but the written word is as wooden as the life boats on the ship. This is a must see movie, not only a part of history but also takes you back in time, and shows you how different things used to be.A great love story filled with laughter & tears!Would recommend to rent or buy!Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
This is a classic romance/adventure/disaster movie that is done in a very tastful and lovely way. It starts out in this day and age and through the memories of a fictional charater you revisit the days leading up to one of the most disasterist happenings on the ocean that gives a new word to the meaning of tragedy. You meet such people as the ship's chaptian, first officer, the band, Molly Brown, and some of the people in third class. It really puts you their during the Titanic's maiden voyage and fatel chrash with an iceburg. Plus you get to see some great fotage that was cut from the final movie including an alternate ending. Also you get to see footage shot on location and other special featurs that are to numerous to go into right now. All of this is possible since the movie is on three DVD's! Oh forgot to tell you that this is the first movie that I know of with Leonardo DeCapreo in it!Read full review
I previously had the '10th Anniversary' DVD edition of Titanic, but after reading about the Collector's Edition, decided to trade up. As an avid fan of the movie, the deleted scenes (which are a part of the Collector's Edition but not the 10th Anniversary set) were of great interest, even though they have been uploaded to You Tube (in significantly lower grade quality). The additional 3rd disc exclusive to the Collector's Set also has an amusing crew video of the movie shoot and while it probably wouldn't be of much interest to the casual fan, it's fun to see additional behind the scenes footage and off camera antics of both the crew and the actors (and director). So...if you love Titanic (the movie), if you are a rabid fan of James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, or Kate Winslet, you'll appreciate the Collector's Edition DVDs and I highly recommend them. If you are a more casual fan and primarily interested in the technical aspects of creating the film, the 10th Anniversary 2 disc set will probably satisfy you with an abundant amount of info on the historical accuracy, how scenes were created and many of the special effects that were used. Regardless, both version contain the most important footage - the movie itself. $1.8 billion dollars in revenue can't be wrong. ; )Read full review
I decided to buy this movie because of what is included in the 3-disc package. I had the original on VHS which I cherished for years. I did this upgrade to have the better quality on DVD. The 3rd disc has so much history on the Titanic. This movie version, has put forth a very good effort into letting us see just exactly what the world & times of the Victorian Period looked like. Just the staterooms on the Titanic we almost an exact copy of the original rooms. Plus, several of the scenes going down into the real Titanic, on the ocean floor where actually real shots. They show you how the movie was made. Usually, I do not want to see this as for me, it spoils my dreamland. However, I found myself watching which such fascination & wonder that the ship could be re-created on land & make me a believer in the magic of movie-making. I highly recommend this set. I am happy to say that I made a wise choice in this investment. Someday, this set will be out of print. This is my all time favorite movie & when I want to fall in love & go off into a dream world, I sail on Titanic and relive the ship of dreams...Read full review
