There's a lot of confusion on how to use ecollars. Lots of the Youtube crowd are trying to imitate people that they never apprenticed with any true professional ecollar trainer or they have, at best, a hackneyed understanding of someone else's article, book or video. This book clearly revolves around the TRUE Operant Conditioning principles and why they work. The book clearly describes how to layer the ecollar on to already learned behaviors (you do NOT teach new behaviors with an ecollar regardless of what McFarlane is trying to say). The actual discussion about the specific ecollars is dated as technology has made great strides in the transmitter range, application and design of the entire ecollar transmitter and receiver. And it's important to remember that Hunting Dog trainers are the ones who developed the first collars. They were also the ones who through trial and error found the best ways to use the collars. It's a fad now for pet dog people to use ecollars to try to shortcut training time (so they can charge more--a USA thing) when, in reality, they have no understanding of Operant Conditioning, the practical development of the tool or why it developed. This book will cover all of that. As a professional Tactical Dog trainer I can say without a doubt this is STILL the Number 1 book on ecollars on the market (videos from some people approach it but do not surpass the structure and science, though). Yes, if you want to have a clear understanding and structured instructions--this book is for you. Read full review
