The pirates were very independent and democratic in their "business" deals with each other. They formed a loose union called "brothers of the coast". They had rules for election of the best leader as ships captain, division of the booty, compensation for those wounded, punishment for stealing from another member and rewards for special effort in capturing a ship.
The pirates roamed along the Atlantic Coastline and Caribbean area in the 1700's to capture merchandise from English and Spanish ships. These included Blackbeard, Sir Henry Morgan, Jean Lafitte, Captain Kidd and Calico Jack among others. Do to a lack of banks and safe havens, and losses at sea,Treasures were sometimes lost, Sunken or Buried along the coastlines.
