Features Acotrs:Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio,Frances Fisher,Billy Zane,Kathy Bates, Jonathan Hyde,Victor Garber Running Time:194 Min. Rating:PG-13 This movie is about a romance between two young people from different backgrounds. In Rose (Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio, The Aviator), you had a romance that women could identify with, as there are obstacles thrown up to prevent true love for the couple. The most notable obstacle being class, as the early part of the century featured groups that were very structured by how much they made and what their standing in life was. In Rose's life, her mother Ruth (Frances Fisher, House of Sand and Fog) plays a huge part in it, and has virtually arranged a marriage to Cal (Billy Zane, The Phantom) that will put both women in the lap of luxury. Jack just has his sketch pad, and lives the bohemian lifestyle, enjoying every minute of it. Then the ship hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic, sinking the unsinkable ship, resulting in a massive loss of life. And Cameron's depiction of the events that led to the final hours is both vivid and unsettling. The thing that stays in someone's mind is that when compared to the real-world events. It focuses more on a romance that may work on the screen, but the written word is as wooden as the life boats on the ship. This is a must see movie, not only a part of history but also takes you back in time, and shows you how different things used to be.A great love story filled with laughter & tears!Would recommend to rent or buy!Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
There was nothing I didn't like about this movie! The acting was top notch in my opinion, and the stage set perfectly. I believe I only looked at the clock twice during the entire movie, hoping it wouldn't be ending anytime soon. Though some might view the "love story" or the basic "soap opera" content as unfulfilling, I felt it even more thrilling than the DiCaprio movie. If given the option of which movie I'd rather see again, I'd definately pick this one, and I was originally under the assumption that nothing could hold a candle to the DiCaprio version. I would definately recommend this movie to anyone with even the smallest interest in the Titanic. My partner, who hates "drama" movies, sat through the entire film, getting up once for a drink, and quickly returning. If he gives the movie a thumb's up, then it's worth watching, considering we're the worst of the worst when it comes to giving most movies a thumb's down. Not this one though.... from 2 movie buffs, whether or not the specific roles of the characters were accurate, it will give one the feeling of being right there during the events. Brilliant movie. This should definately be available at Blockbuster, but unfortunately, I could only find it on ebay. 2 THUMBS WAY UP!Read full review
As a Turner Classic Movie junkie, I believe that decades in the future this move will be listed among the great American classics. The story is classic-the sinking of the 'unsinkable' Titanic. The acting is extraordinary; considering that Kate Winslet and Leo Di Caprio had little experience before this film. The director, James Cameron, won a much deserved "Best Director" Oscar....and the film was nominated numerously. Own this movie as a part of the backbone of true classics....you won't regret it.

What's not to like! Girl meets boy, girl gets saved by boy, girl gets saved by boy again, girl saves boy, girl gets saved by boy yet again and girl lives to be 101 and tosses the world's most famous diamond into the sea to get even with former fiancé. Perfect! Besides, there's that music! those clothes! that money! even steerage seems like more fun than it should be. The story of the maiden voyage of the Titanic is a fascinating tribute to man's need(read humankind's need, although it is specifically man's obsession with size that is addressed!)to "conquer" nature and the amazingly tragic consequences when nature decides to show just how stupid that attitude is. The natural world doesn't care that we are here and have dreams, ambitions and futures. Duck and survive is the motto, good for you if you do and oh well, if you don't. And when it's over, if you shared love and a little meaning you are the fortunate one. Visually as well, this version is the most grand and engaging of those that have come before. It is difficult to discern where real life and reel life diverge. Also, people behave like people, not stereotypes, some are good, some are noble and self-sacrificing, some cheat, trick and steal, some parts make your heart ache and some parts (following the escaping rats, for example) make you laugh. I bought this DVD because I had worn out the VHS watching it so many times and each time I watch it the ship still sinks, Ismay still escapes in a women and children only boat as does Cal, the captain still goes down with the ship and the rescue is still way too late and I still tear up at the end when old Rose dies (that's my opinion) and sees Jack again. What a great movie! Who could ask for more?Read full review
I remember being reluctant to see this movie when it first came out in theaters but was talked into it and I'm so happy I gave in. The experience in the theater was amazing with everyone getting involved in the movie and it receiving a standing ovation at the end. I ended up seeing it two more times in the theater. I love the story and history of the movie. My daughter who is now 15, this is her favorite movie of all time and would watch it over and over. We used to have it on VHS and she wore it out. It was hard to find on DVD in stores but was able to get this for Christmas for her and she loves it. If you haven't seen it, you must see it at least once and would will most likely watch it more than that even if you didn't plan on it.
