I have been working on collecting all of the SPs and EPs of The Sims 2 for quite awhile, and did my research regarding the Freetime EP to decide whether to buy it. The reasons I wanted to buy it include the addition of new careers (I tend to play the knowledge aspiration and I had been getting a little bored with trying to be a mad scientist, chief of staff, and natural scientist (Univ.). I also was intrigued with the enthusiasm of hobbies, and the items associated with them. It gives me a chance to really "flesh out" my characters more, which makes it more fun to play. I also like the idea that with some hobbies, like arts and crafts, you can make some of your own clothing and decor, even a toy. They are limited in scope, but it is very cool to be able to make your own clothes instead of buying them for 200-400 simoleons! It is also possible to combine some crafting elements of FreeTime with the business options of OpenForBusiness. There are a lot of things to make in various hobbies that you might not ever really use, but you can sell them at a store or home business which is great for you creative fortune sims. There is also a 2nd aspiration reward system that works a little like the first, as it is based on fulfilling wants. Fulfill wants and get aspiration points that you can use toward things like lengthening time between meals or fun, get more vacation days at work or summon aliens on command, and get a secondary aspiration which gives you some wants and fears that fit it, all adding to more complexity. There are good sites that break down this info (gamefaq, ign, etc.) The only things I don't like is that the enthusiasm for a particular hobby decreases relatively quickly, so it is hard to have 2 or 3 hobbies, simkids, work up through a job, and maintain relationships (This is true in real life, but this is a game, so a little leeway would have been nice). The other thing is that for some reason (maybe it's how I make my characters?) more sims have a talent for the Tinkering hobby than the others, which I don't understand. There are 8-10 hobbies! I have every EP except BV at this point and I would have to say that in addition to what I consider the necessary EPs just for enough gameplay options (University and NightLife), FreeTime, Seasons, and Pets are at the same level for me of importance. They all add different elements to gameplay and complexity, which for me is what I prefer in a game like this. It also adds value to what some sims do every day (ie, gardening increases nature hobby enthusiasm, which gives you the chance to go hiking and collect bugs! :-) ) So I would highly suggest getting this EP for the Sims2.Read full review

I love everything about this product. The Sims 2 is a great game and Free Time gives your sims more awesome things to do like pottery, basketball and competition etc. I buy this Sims because I awlays want it since it first came out. Now The Sims 3 and The Sims 4 taking over,I want to collect them all before they become extinct lol.
I love this Expansion. You can have your sim fix a old junky car and make it new and awesome. You can sew clothes and do sports things like basketball and soccer. You can do pottery although I'm still at the making plates stage (stage 1) you can have your sims do a little ballet although its just warm up's at the pole. Your sims have a preferred hobby and they can also do other hobbies too. Some of the hobbies can make money for you. All in all its a really really fun expansion
