My partner and I have been slowly buying all the Ghibli films used on eBay and watching them during quarantine. All Miyazaki's films are great, and buying them used has been really cost effective. I'll keep these for years to come and share them with my kids. Buying the 2-disc versions are totally worth it if you want to know more about how the films were made. ***** Educational, great for kids.

I'm a huge fan of the Ghibli movies. Even their worst movies could still be considered masterpieces. They're visually gorgeous, the stories are engaging, and the characters are always filled with life. Arriety is no exception. It's loosely based off the book "The Borrowers", and honestly, I prefer the Ghibli version of the story over the original. Arriety is a strong, brave young girl who loves adventure in spite of being so tiny. She meets a full sized boy with a heart condition and helps him find happiness and to appreciate life; while at the same time reconciling the fact that they live in two completely different worlds. The movie does an amazing job of building their friendship within the movie's running time. You can feel the warmth and love that they have for each other. Seeing things from a tiny perspective with the Ghibli art style is a real treat. It makes me appreciate nature around me (though all Ghibli movies do that). Colors pop, and the lighting gives the viewer the impression that you're standing there along side them. It's really the best 2D animation i've ever seen. And the music........wow. Seriously. It's candy for the ears. That's all I can say. Now why do I give this a 4 instead of a 5/5? The run time. It's really the only complaint I have. If i'm not mistaken, it's the shortest movie Ghibli has made (or at least one of the shortest), and because of that, I feel that there were moments that didn't seem as fully explored than others. I would have loved to have had more scenes to experience day to day life as a borrower, so the dangers of being one could be better emphasized. Also, there's a borrower character that shows up halfway through who doesn't get a whole lot of screen time. He's not a major character, but he was unique enough that it would have been interesting to see him interacting more with Arriety and her family. Overall, it's another masterpiece by the Studio Ghibli. I personally know people who dislike or even hate anime, but Ghibli movies are so amazing that even they will overlook the format and enjoy them for what they are: True experiences.Read full review

This Japanese made story of "The Borrowers" is presented by Disney. It is very well done with beautiful music. A movie the whole family can enjoy. I was slightly disappointed with the voice of the father, "Pod", but it didn't harm the story or movie at all. It is dubbed over in English, which isn't noticeable, and it has English subtitles, if needed, and the Japanese translation into English, if you like. You may also like the story "The Borrowers" with John Goodman. Our entire family loved this movie!♥
I found the story very truthful to real life I think a great story for all
