I was first introduced to the music of Rich Mullins about 18 months before his untimely death. I was at one of the lowest points in my life, and a good friend suggested that I give some of Rich's music a try. I became hooked instantly and have since gathered quite a collection of of his work. It is hard for me to rate any single one of Rich's albums, as each of them could easily be listed as "MY FAVORITE". Simply put, there are no BAD albums in my opinion, only the ones that have more of your favorite songs than the others. If you are a fan of Rich Mullins, check out the movie that was made a couple of years ago about his life. You might enjoy that as well.

I first began to become aware of the music of Rich Mullins only about two years before his death. This is to my great regret. His music would be legendary if this present world took a moment to note such Heavenly talents. But alas, we are lost in an ocean of blood-guiltiness and have no patience for such a man as this - and so he was taken from our midst, like Elijah, via a chariot of fire. The first disc in this two-disc set is the important one. On it are the recordings Rich left behind, demo's for the songs he had in mind for an upcoming album, which he wanted to call 'The Jesus Record'. To hear him play his music in a raw and unfinished fashion which just happened to have been recorded two days before his death is as compelling as any call to accept Christ can be. The value of the second disc - in which the various denizens of the 'Contemporary Christian' community pay tribute to him - is not in the tribute. The value of that disc is in one track - 'Man of No Reputation' - which was the one song Mullins was said by his close associates to never have been able to fully perform without choking up in tears, unable to complete. His friends carry him through on that one, just as the Samaritan carried the Cross of Christ, and while the dynamic is strange and confusing - it is wonderful, and humbling to behold. How can such a masterpiece - such a capstone to such a genius - lie dusty and forgotten? If one plastic piece of the flotsam and jetsam of the twentieth century remained for later centuries to examine, I would pray it could be this CD set. If you have any inclination toward listening to a committed genius Irish poet and musician, and his friends expound upon and praise The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit - get to know Rich Mullins and The Ragamuffin Band. This CD was the end of their time together - a lot of good work went before it.Read full review
I really enjoy this cd set, as it shares the story behind the most humbling singer/song writer's quest to share our Lord's love for us. Each and every song is so dedicated and true. Bible stories are mixed in the blend of these songs...telling the Wonderful Story. I enjoy that it does have the rough cut version of Rich Mullins last recordings, along with his loving friends that carried out the rest of the story............. BEWARE! This cd can be VERY ADDICTING, and MAY move you to tears, or a humbling state of mind! This cd set is good for both the young at heart, and the young in spirit. The rhythm in this, is mellow to medium. It will make you wished that you had the chance to meet Rich Mullins before he went home to our heavenly father. Thanks be to God for his legacy......................Read full review
This is a very good CD because it has the demo songs that Rich recorded with just a guitar and cassette tape recorder not long before he passed away and never had the chance to record before his tragic accident. The second disc contains all those songs but recorded by various other artists. My very favorite is the demo of the heart wrenching "Hard To Get" sung by Rich, especially having heard he was teary eyed while singing it for his musician friend to hear..

I love this CD! I watched some of the Lufkin concert on you tube and was sold by Rich Mullins love for Jesus. He is not about himself putting on a show, but pointing people to Jesus. If you search and read about his life, which I highly recommend, you will find you will be changed as well and encouraged to truely cut out the fluff and pick up your cross. Pick up a few of his books, and I highly recommend getting the Rich Mullins Live DVD of his last concert before he went home with the Lord. Check out www.richmullins.com Once cd is Rich recording the Jesus Record, the other is done by the Ragamuffin Band and some other friends. Really good! Really, really good!
