As of 2006 this is my favoriate cookbook on baking! I love everything that Cook's Illustrated puts out but "The Dessert Bible" is number one in my kitchen. This cookbook is everything you want and more... - Product testing - best mixers, best coco, best chocolate chips... - Methods in baking - shifting, spooning, and sweeping - What about if I have the wrong pan size? They explain what to do - Test, Test and Test it again - that is every recipe in this book - Lots of illustrations on "how to" - It is like a textbook - All sorts of fun things to learn Recipes I have made and loved - Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Moist Peanut Butter Cookies, Double Chocolate Cookies, Snipdoodles, Molasses Spice Cookies, Gingersnaps (amazing), Chewy-Fudgy Brownies, and Lemon Bars. My husband is a big cookie fan. If you are looking for a great baking book, look no more. If I could only have 12 cookbooks (I have over 300) this would be one of them. I love it that much. You will not be disappointed. This book is also combined into another book Cook's Illustrated published called "The Classic Cookbook". Yes, I left out the Chocolate Chip Cookies - I have a recipe that everyone loves, I have spent years perfecting it. I have tried many others but, I always end up going back to mine.Read full review
I LOVE this book! I found it in my local library and fell in love with it, but couldn't afford to pay full price for it. When I found it on eBay, I was thrilled. There are many different desserts in this book, some easy and classic, others a little more detailed, based on restaurant fare, or older and less heard of. What's great is the fact that the recipes have been tried and retried until they are perfected and taste as good as they possibly can. The two other things that are wonderful about this book are the fact that Christopher Kimball shares his techniques for making the recipes perfectly; and he lets you know the best ingredients and best kitchen equipment/bakeware to have in your kitchen. Needless to say, I'm addicted, and will be looking to purchase more of Christopher Kimball's books on eBay.Read full review
Christopher Kimball has taken all the guesswork out of baking. Follow Kimballs instructions to the letter and you will be an expert. This is the third book I have purchased, gave the other two to friends who needs to learn how to bake.

This is a Bible for every kitchen I love this Cook Book it has some very wonderful recipes in it my entire family has enjoyed everything I have prepared form this Cook Book it has come in very handy I have almost all of the Bible Cook Books & each one gets better they are so thought out & easy to follow their is a dessert for every one in the family & taste bud you have to cook for & so simple you will not mind trying all the different one they have to offer & believe me they will enjoy each & every one you make & give them to taste.
The book does an excellent job in explaining how to do a technique, why you do it, and provides some alternatives. However, everything is so overwhelming, there is too much information. There is probably one recipe every page or so with a short essay with each recipe. Another drawback is that there are no pictures. So if you have a lot of time and are a new cook who is really interested in understand every piece of cook deserts then this is the book for you
