I loved this book. It was a little disturbing, being in her head with her describing how it felt to be ill with a mental illness but a great opportunity to understanding. Well written, compelling, and hard to put down. We read this for a book group, and everyone in the group enjoyed the book as well, the writing, the brilliance of the author and how insightfully she described her illness. It led to a great discussion. We had earlier read Still Alice by Lisa Genova about a woman with early onset Alzheimer's disease. It was good to compare the two authors and how they handled telling about the two diseases. I would recommend The Center Cannot Hold.
Such a fascinating compelling story, told by Elyn’s. She’s intelligent and has a bright future, the only thing holding her back is her own mind. It’s a journey through mental illness and how she learns to cope.

Elyn Saks grew up in Miami where I grew up. She’s an interesting lady. The book explores her journey through college when her symptoms started, and beyond. I have not finished it yet but I’ve heard her speak on YouTube.
