I love the Chronicles of Prydain… By Lloyd Alexander… I stumbled across those books in childhood… These are the best fantasy books I’ve ever read… They did win the Newbery Award for the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for children… They were written in the sixties… I love the Chronicles of Prydain better than Narnia, Lord of the Rings, or even A Wrinkle in Time… What I like better about these books is they do have more romance… Narnia or Lord of the Rings doesn’t have as much of a love story to them… It’ too bad those books have gotten over shattered… There great books… There sort of like King Arthur… Dallben is like Merlin… In the books, Princess Eilonwy is my favorite Princess of all time… What I like about her, is can handle herself pretty well in a fight. She’s a Sorceress by birth, and her weapon of choice is a bow… Despite Taran’s feudal attempts to keep her home, she doesn’t listen very well… She’s stubborn… She’ll talk a mile a minute… That drives Taran up the wall… From childhood, those two are destined to be together... Its cute how in the end, she gives up her powers to be with Taran… Taran does start out being an Assistant Pig Keeper to Hen Wen. He’s an orphan who was found and raised by Dallben. It’s really his story. How he grows from an orphan boy into a man… It’s his adventure. What a truly epic adventure he goes on in search of his manhood… In the end, he is named King of Prydain….. They should have made moves out of these books too… Like Lord of the Rings and Narnia. Using computer graphics. This would have made an awesome movie if they followed all five books… But, sadly Disney butchered this movie… They cut out way too much important material… It’s too bad… They combined The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron… They left out key Characters and really important information… That ruined this movie… My Advice to everyone… Read these books and see what I mean about them being epic… Don’t pay attention to this move…Read full review
I haven't watched this movies in many years. Getting back into Disney. Bought used DVD, great shape, no skips or pauses on disk.

This Disney animated film was not one of the most popular of all the animated films but I still liked it. This film was not based on a fairy tale but rather an original concept from Disney. Parts of the film tend to be a bit dark and onminous, but the little sidekick, Gurgi, brightens it up. The story has a classic "good vs. evil" plot but it's the subtle message towards the end that makes it worthwhile, "friendship, unconditional love, and loyalty can last forever. The kids will love Gurgi's curiousity and parents will love the magic.
Back in simpler childhood years with a bigger TV and smoother frames and the story is just as intense as before
