There was a small series of Amy Fisher movies made at the time of the whole Amy Fisher phenomena. This one happens to star Drew Barrymore who is absolutely awesome as The Long Island Lolita. This DVD reveals a little bit more of the sexual side than the one that was aired on television. A big part of this version deals with the media and the conflicting sides surrounding what actually happened. Amy insists that her and Joey Buttafucuo are in love and that he coerced her to shoot his wife. Joey insists that nothing ever happened and that Amy is crazy. The media twists the facts to reap the benefits of entertainment value. This also peaks into Amy's home life, her life as a young prostitute, and her desire for an ideal family of her own. Amy is extremely manipulative, smart and too mature for her age yet at the same time she is confused, vulnerable, and reminiscent of a spoiled teenager. The complexities of the character make this story very interesting. Everything from the accents to the clothing are represented well. Another bonus is the character of Amy Pagnozzi, the intelligent and savvy reporter who tries to get the truth amidst the lies of the ever-revolving media circus. Admittedly, some parts of this movie are somewhat funny, not to make fun of the situation, but sometimes character traits can be comedic without intending to be. I don't know if to call this movie awesomely bad or excellent, because it's really a little bit of both. I suggest getting the 3 main Amy Fisher movies and deciding for yourself. Anyway, if you love Drew Barrymore, this is a nice break from some of her other roles where she's just adorable. It really shows the power of her acting ability at a young age.Read full review
