I had a Taylor Made burner driver and decided I wasn't playing frequently enough for something with such a small head. As such I looked towards a larger headed driver. I usually like to try my clubs before I buy so being as I saw this as a risk I wanted something cheap from ebay. I got this for around $40 in used condition with shipping. I was not dissapointed! In short I used to hit the ball around 250yds and now 300yds is not as much of a challenge. The thing I like about this is that it sends the ball really high. This helps clear trees etc although maybe a problem in the wind. The loft is 10.5 degrees and it has a stiff fujy something shaft. My previous driver was 9.5 degrees. If you want a cheap driver go for this. It isn't the latest and greatest but it does work very well. Tip: Make sure you get the conforming variant, checkout www.randa.co.uk. As of January next year there are a shed load of drivers which will be illegal for 'competition' use. Even the big name manufacturers have sold illegal drivers!Read full review
I’m a beginner golfer, only been playing for three years shooting about a 115 score on average. I had a Callaway Big Bertha regular shaft and had trouble with a wicked far slice. When I hit it just right I would get 250-275 yards out of it. That would only be about 5% of the time. The other 95% would just head out straight 200 yards and curve nasty to the right. So when I was shopping around I knew I wanted a stiff shaft and a big head. I chose the Taylor Made R580 and it was fine. I then purchased the R580 XD. Went to the range and hit three buckets. Now reverse those numbers. I hit it 95% of the time 275-300 yards and slice it 5% of the time. Played a round earlier today with my friends and put up a 101 on my scorecard. Lowest round ever for me. Put your faith in this review and that club. Not a bad choice for only $20. I will continue to grow with this club for a while.Read full review
Review from a high handicap golfer....I'm athletic but no golf pro. Just three rounds into the season, I can see a tremendous imporvement off the tee. Club head is just the right size - my buddy has a new taylormade burner with a much bigger head and I hate it. Too bulky. This one is just the right size, big enough to avoid the whiffs and solid enough for three 230-250 yd drives with my cheap Topflite balls...lol Feels great when you hit almost every time - Now if it could only fix my slice every other hit - hey, I swing too hard it's not the clubs fault. Pick up a nice used one for under $100 and don't think twice. Well worth it.
I bought my friend's R580 cuz he thought he wanted a new driver. After 3 weeks and demoing 5 top clubs, he acutally asked to buy his driver back. I obliged cuz the shaft was a little stiffer than I wanted. So, I am looking on Ebay right now for a replacement. I used to be 225 yds now I can hit them 250 every time. An amazing club for a high handicapper not known for long drives. my old best drive was 250. after 1 week with this club I hit one 280. Nice.
The R580 driver may not be the newest driver on the market, but it is still a solid and long club. Before you spend 4-6 hundred on a new driver, try the R580. It is one of several drivers that performs well, even compared to the latest and greatest clubs. Before buying any golf club, try to find a retailer where you can try several brands and shaft combinations. The right shaft combined with the R580 head will improve your distance off the tee!
