MacMillan later led his own expeditions to Arctic lands, including studies of Greenland and Labrador for the Field Museum (1913-1937). He pioneered use of modern technologies - aircraft, radio and electricity - in polar regions. MacMillan carried out ethnographic studies of the Inuit people, even compiling a dictionary of their language. He detailed his travels in a number of books, including How Peary Reached the Pole (1934)
