I am happy to offer for auction this week, a wonderful full-color original drawing by Superman creator, Joe Shuster – a recreation of the image from the cover to ACTION COMICS #19 (December, 1939)!

Art is beautifully rendered in lead and colored pencils, which give the image the soft quality of pastels.

Drawn in 1983, this is one of only a very few cover recreations that Shuster did and is 100% his work. Joe was always a penciller. Virtually all Superman Golden Age comic book and comic strip art was inked by others including: Paul Cassidy, Wayne Boring, Leo Nowak, John Sikela, etc...etc…

See below this description for several photographs of the original including one of Joe Shuster himself holding the artwork taken around 1983-84 in Los Angeles, CA!

The provenance is as follows – It was purchased from Shuster by Richard & Wendy Pini who eventually sold their entire collection through Heritage Auctions in their February, 2005 sale. The art was sold to the person I am selling it on consignment for.

A Shuster Superman drawing inked by someone else sold at auction this very month for $ 14,000............ $16,750 w/ Buyer’s Premium!

Condition: Signed by the artist. Original is in excellent condition and archivally matted with an image area of size of 14 x 18 3/4". Size of artwork without mat is 15" x 20".
I welcome bidders outside the USA but they must pay for shipping and the art will only be shipped Express Mail, fully insured and the full value of the artwork will be noted on the customs form. If you have a US address I can ship to, it will be better all around.
