Moonstone is one of the modern June birthstones and a gem for the 13th wedding anniversary. Moonstone often has a silvery sheen or iridescence known as adularescence. Moonstone is the most valuable form of feldspar and is composed of albite. Moonstone was used by the Romans since as early as 100 AD who thought that the stone was formed from the light of the moon, hence its name. In India, moonstone is considered a sacred stone. In ancient times, it was believed that one could see the future if the stone was held in the mouth during a full moon. Another synonym for moonstone is selenite, which was named after the Greek goddess of the moon, Selene.
Moonstone is an opalescent stone which ranges from colorless to blue, brown, green, grey, peach, pink, yellow. Moonstone is transparent to translucent. Rainbow moonstone is milky white with a rainbow colored sheen.
Important Note about Color: The actual color and lightness/darkness of the stone will vary from what is displayed on your monitor. There are many reasons that can cause this visual situation, One of the more important reason is the difference between transmitted light color (such as light shining through a gemstone), color generation simulations and adjustments (such as your monitor) and reflected light (light bouncing off objects). Add to this each individual’s personal color sensitivities along with variances in ambient (surrounding) light sources used when the photo was taken as well as those where you are looking at the stone. You should expect that the actual item shading and coloring will vary from what you see on any monitor or printed piece.
Moonstone is found in Brazil, Germany, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Switzerland, Tanzania and the United States of America.
Sources Note: Due to current political conditions, all imports (including gemstones) from Myanmar (Burma) are not permitted under United States law. In accordance with the law, none of the gemstones offered by CAB-Finejewelry are known to be from Myanmar. CAB-Finejewelry does not knowingly purchase, trade, sell or giveaway goods from Myanmar or any other country embargoed by the United States of America. As individuals, we may not agree with the laws of our country. However, rather than breaking the law, we choose to work toward changing these laws in a orderly and legal manner.
Moonstone is soft and should be handled with great care. It should be cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid sudden changes of temperature and, as with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used.

Add a Chain:
A beautiful, brand-new Chain is available. See our Copper Chain or Silver Chain lot listed under Other Items in our eBay store.
Carat, Caret, Karat or Carrot?
Carat: A carat with an initial C and two a's is a unit of weight used for gemstones. One carat is 200 milligrams which equals 0.2 grams in weight. A gram, incidentally, is 1/454 of a pound which would make 28.375 grams to an ounce. A 150 pound person would weigh approximately 340,500 carats which just might bend your jeweler's carat scale a bit out of shape.
Caret: A caret with one a and one e is a wedge-shaped proofreader's mark ( ^ ) used to indicate an insertion into text. The caret mark is found on the shift 6 on your computer keyboard. There are several other uses and definitions for this nifty wedgie.
Karat: A karat with an initial k is a reference to the purity of gold. As defined, pure gold is 24 karat. Karat is often abbreviated as k or kt with or without a period following the abbreviation.
Carrot: A carrot with two Rs is a root vegetable that, historically, came in a wide range of colors including black, green, orange, purple, red, white and yellow. Green? And I thought they were just a bit moldy.
Solid 100% copper, 10kt gold and .925 sterling silver 18-inch chains are available. Please see our eBay listing under Other Items in our eBay store. The solid copper chains come in a variety of lengths and can be custom made to your legnth requirements.
Cleaning Your Jewelry:
Metal-specific dipping solutions are available at most variety and department stores. Since these solutions are made from chemicals, extreme caution should be exercised when using this type of solution. Some stones are highly perishable in these solutions, so follow jeweler recommendations. If in doubt, do NOT dip.
Anti-tarnish strips are available to purchase. These help minimize the natural patina (tarnish) on sterling silver. They should be replaced on a regular basis depending upon the area to be protected and the airflow. Many of our sterling silver pieces are shipped with a small black piece of anti-tarnish material to protect from tarnishing.
The following are general, non-specific guidelines to jewelry cleaning. This is not meant to replace specific cleaning instructions provided by competent sources. When in doubt, ask a professional jeweler before cleaning.
Most gemstones can be sparingly cleaned using lukewarm, mild, soapy water and rinsed with the same temperature water. Avoid exposure to strong light and sudden changes of temperature. As with all fine jewelry, remove before doing any type of physical work. Traditional gemstone procedure of storing in soft cloth away from other articles of jewelry hold true, too. Ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners and chemicals should never be used. Hair-spray and perfumes can leave permanent residue on all gemstones so be sure to keep your jewelry far away from these common items.
Color is subjective and the result of many variables. The color of the gemstones may and will probably vary from what you see on your computer monitor.
Some naturally-occurring gemstones come in a wide range of color shades. The particular gemstone used in an individually-crafted piece will vary from the color displayed on your computer monitor or printed from a printer. Some gemstones, such as Alexandrite, readily change color as the lighting source changes.
If you are curious about what may cause a variance in color from what you see on your monitor, email us. Please include your regular email address with your request.
Definitions for common jewelry terms are available upon request. Let us know what definition(s) you would like. Please include your regular email address with your request.
Positive feedback will be given after positive feedback is received. If there is any problem with your order, please contact us first.

All measurements while deemed to be accurate, are approximate. Some measurements, such as carat weight, are furnished to us by the artisans. Other measurements we do in our own store using professional measuring devices. Nonetheless, measurements usually will vary since most pieces are individually handcrafted from naturally-ocurring gemstones.
PayPal is the only payment accepted. Payment in full must be received before any item is shipped.
Photos, unless otherwise noted, are representative of the basic style. Many gemstones have characteristic patterns, swirls and inclusions which, like a fingerprint, are unique to that specific, individual stone. Because of this, the particular patterns, swirls and inclusions in the particular piece you receive will probably vary from that shown in a representative photo.

Unless otherwise stated, the rings we sell can usually be adjusted by professional jewelers to meet your finger requirements.
