Interesting piece of historical newspaper memorabilia. This is a sterling silver cigarette case Hallmarked W.D. & Co and the hallmarks for London 1939-40 with the Wm DRUMMOND  & Co MELBOURNE imprint. The inside has been gold washed and engraved {showing silver}  PRESENTED BY THE DIRECTORS OF THE DAILY MIRROR AND SUNDAY PICTORIAL NEWSPAPERS OF LONDON TO COMMEMORATE YOUR PART IN LAUNCHING THE "NEW ARGUS" MELBOURNE 19.6.1950 This measures approx'y 9.5cm by 8.5cm and weighs approx'y 157 gm.  The catch and hinges are tight.  There are some stains any one used to cleaning silver could remove these.  A very good piece for any collector of the print media, a little research could probably work out who it was presented to.
