I bought this binocular to replace a Nikon 10X42 Monarch 5 series that I was using to chart thoroughbred races. The Nikon's are ok during daylight hours, but I experienced higher than expected chromatic aberration under the lights when racing at night. The Steiner's let in much more light, have zero distortion and zero chromatic aberration under every condition I've used them. In addition the image is cleaner, flatter, true to color and the cost was nearly $200.00 less than the Nikon's. In contrast, the Monarch's distorted the image around the edges and didn't let in nearly enough light to be used under the artificial lighting of the racing surface. As a professional in the sport of horse racing, I highly recommend this binocular.

Hard to beat as a searching binocular. Wide field and great clarity. Because you are not grinding the focus knob, you can scan more quickly and hold on to the boat with one hand. Great binocular for rough seas. Heavy, steady and one handed.

Under the compass there's a blue color stain and something like a squeeze out, hopefully is not some type of glue, which could mean that it's been repaired. I still don't know how to use the compass, but I noticed that it doesn't move sometimes, I'm talking about the one inside the binocular. I got this bino today so I'm still not familiar with it, I just wish it came with a manual. Finally the lens covers don't stay in place.

Not knowing a lot I turned to my friend who is an avid hunter so I decided to give these a try. Wow truly amazing optics on these. I will be using them at sea on my boat. I know my buddy bought the top of the line optics and I can only imagine how his are. I will enjoy these untill I need an upgrade. These are truly a great pair of optics. I can spot the chipmunks trying to get into my garden 300 feet away that’s how nice they are

Purchased this binocular because I knew that Steiner are top quality optics, I was not wrong, they are great. The view is crystal clear, no focus adjustment needed once set up, makes for quick spotting for what I am looking at. They are a bit on the heavy side, but they are very durable, and I can see why they are Military grade optics. I have a Nikon and also another Japanese set, both are excellent, but these German optics meet every expectation, especially for night viewing. Easy to use, stable platform (because of weight, though it will wear on you after a while).
