Item specifics

New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is ... Read moreabout the condition

You are bidding on one ITEM which includes:

A) a SET OF FOUR (4) STAINLESS Steel Allen-head (hex socket) machine screws

B) a 7/64" black oxide hex key (Allen wrench)

These grip screws are for the Ruger Mark I, II, and III series pistol grip panels.

One set of four (4) screws is enough to attach grips to one pistol. This set of FOUR SCREWS (four stainless steel screws) is intended to replace the factory-supplied screws on Ruger Mark I, Mark II, and Mark III pistols. These screws may be used with Ruger factory grips or aftermarket grips. These screws will work with either the blued or stainless steel Ruger Mark series pistol frames (Mark I, Mark II, and Mark III). These grip screws are NOT for use with the 22/45 pistol series from Ruger, which has a fixed molded grip integrated with the frame

For comparison, the factory grip panel screw on a Ruger Mark series pistol is a high-quality black steel slotted machine screw with a 6.3 millimeter outer-diameter head. The head is 3.09mm thick. The threaded portion has an outer diameter of 3.43mm, and a threaded length of 4.92mm extending below the screw head. The shorter factory grip panel screw only engages a few threads at the tip, and is prone to stripping from excessive torque even when using thin factory grip panels. The problem is worse with some after-market grip panels, which can be a little thicker than the factory grips. In this case, the shorter factory screws are prone to cross-threading and damage. They can easily be stripped from either over-tightening or from struggling to start the first few threads on tight-fitting or thick aftermarket grips. This is a common problem, with numerous online forum postings over time. At times, even a brand-new factory gun will have grip screws damaged from over-tightening, with damaged screw heads and threads.

Included in this sale, the hexagonal socket-head stainless steel grip panel machine screws are made from high-strength, corrosion resistant 18-8 Stainless Steel. The head has an outer diameter of 5.70mm and a thickness of 3.35mm. The outer face of the head is finely textured with linear grooves. The actual threaded length extending below the bolt head is 5.70mm. These slightly-longer stainless screws are thus ideal for providing more thread engagement on thicker after-market grip panels for the Ruger, or any grip panel that gives only partial thread engagement to the frame. The slightly smaller outer diameter of the head is also able to fit more after-market grip designs. The heads of the stainless screws may be polished to a mirror brightness using a Dremel tool and abrasive rouge compound. As shipped, they have a smooth satin Stainless finish matching the unpolished factory Stainless gun well.

Because these screws extend slightly through the frame, they engage with all of the threads on the frame with most grip designs. However, one should use care not to over-tighted these or any screws during installation, as thread stripping is still possible even with greater thread engagement.

Also, the buyer should note that these screws have a slightly smaller head diameter compared to the factory Ruger screws (5.7mm vs. 6.3mm). This slightly smaller diameter ensures that the screws will fit with all aftermarket grips, and makes it easier to start the threads correctly without interference from the grips. However, the load-bearing surface area on the under-lip of the head of these screws is slightly less compared to the factory screws, and so care should be used not to over tighten them. This has not been a problem for users of this product in the past but it is worth noting. Please read the feedback for user’s experience with these products.

These stainless steel screws have an Allen-head (hex or hexagonal head) which fits a 7/64" Allen key (hex wrench). In addition to the stylish modern look, the hex socket is less prone to slipping during installation compared to slotted screws, which can damage expensive checkered grips. The hex wrench itself is also smaller to carry than a screwdriver, which facilitates grip changes at the shooting range or in the field. HEX WRENCH IS NOW INCLUDED WITH INDIVIDUAL STAINLESS STEEL SCREW SETS.

The threading of these screws is, of course, identical to the factory screws, 6-40 standard. Some sources of information incorrectly state that the factory Ruger grip screw threading is 6-48 standard. However, careful measurement has shown that the factory grip screws are indeed 6-40 threaded. Additionally, 6-40 threaded screws fit into the frame without jamming or crossthreading, while 6-48 threaded "scope screws" will not thread cleanly into the frames. The Ruger Parts Department has confirmed in writing that 6-40 is the proper threading for Mark Series pistols for as far back as their records go.

Brownell's, a trusted source for firearm parts, sells a similar product (in black oxide or nickel, for twice or three times the price as these stainless) that is listed on catalog page 164. Brownell's lists this product as compatible with Mark I and Mark II pistols. Brownell's lists their screws as 6-40 threaded, with an 8.1mm overall length, which is about the same length as the factory screws, and shorter than these screws. The Brownell's screws appear to have the shorter threaded length, similar to the factory screw dimensions.

For pricing comparison, the Brownell screws are over $2 a piece in black oxide ($9.48 for a set of four, +S&H) and over $3 a piece in nickel plate ($14.99 for a set of four, +S&H), while these stainless steel screws (quantity 4) are offered here for $4.25 (+$1.25 shipping and handling, $0.50 S&H for each additional set), along with the included Allen wrench. This is a very good deal for these Allen (hex socket) grip screws. Additionally, you get a high-quality black-oxide coated Allen key in 7/64". Even if you already have a full set of Allen keys, this one can be kept in the gun case or shooting range bag, so you don't have to break up the other set.

The advantages of these screws compared to factory screws are thus:

1) Corrosion resistance and good looks

2) Slightly longer threaded length (approximately .8 to 1 millimeter or about two threads)

3) Slightly smaller head diameter (approximately .6 millimeters)

4) Allen (hex) driver design allows for compact field toolsets and slip-free changes (HEX KEY IS INCLUDED)

I used to have a nice photo of the product mounted on a Ruger, but eBay policy now forbids displaying a photo with a gun in it. Included in the sale is a SET OF FOUR (4) stainless steel hex socket screws and the matching Allen wrench. ONE ALLEN KEY (HEX KEY) IS INCLUDED WITH EACH ITEM PURCHASED. Also shown are a set of Hogue rubber grips (shown for perspective and demonstration of installation only). A close-up view of the fastener design is also shown in the inset.

Firearm and Hogue rubber grips are NOT INCLUDED with this purchase. At certain times, a value pack with both stainless screws and black screws may be available listed separately in other auctions from this seller. The Value-Pack saves money compared to the total price (plus S&H) for two separate sets.

Seller will usually ship the next business day, and guarantee shipping within three business days. Seller will ship to continental USA only, PAYPAL only. Buyers of multiple sets will receive a discounted shipping rate.

Please do not bid on this item if you are not located in the continental USA. Please do not bid on this item if you do not intend to purchase it. Questions should ideally be asked before purchase. I have tried to provide as much information as practical on this fine aftermarket modification for a fine quality .22LR pistol, the RUGER .22 Autoloading Mark Series. This modification has given trouble-free operation for many thousands of rounds, and allows easy grip changes at the range or in the field. Seller has installed this product and uses it regularly.

Customer satisfaction is very important and all efforts will be made to meet your demands. This is a fine quality product offered at a very good price. I am proud to offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Please view my seller feedback to hear from past customers of this product.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER FOR FIREARM-RELATED PRODUCTS: Due to manufacturing variations in individual firearms, seller does not warrant that this product will function with any specific firearm. Accordingly, this product is sold "AS IS" and "WITH ALL FAULTS." To the extent allowed by law, we specifically disclaim any express or implied warranties, including, but not limited to, warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

As with all firearm-related products, please test the firearm after installation of this product for proper function. These screws have been tested to work with Ruger Mark I, II, and III series pistols, but due to individual variation among firearms and grips, it is critical to verify function of the firearm after installation, particularly if the weapon is used for self-defense, security, or law-enforcement / police duty. Aftermarket grips may alter the mass and recoil properties of an autoloading firearm, and proper operation with a given type of ammunition should be verified. Please verify the proper function of the firearm in a safe location, first with an unloaded magazine. After unloaded operation has been verified, the first test-fire of the firearm should be performed at a safe, controlled location (such as a firing range) to verify proper function before service duty. This is a good practice for all firearm modifications, however minor. Please be safe and respect all laws regarding firearms. Please do not purchase this product if you are not legally allowed to use it.
