This handsome single-decade style rosary chaplet is really quite special - with a crucifix modeled after the one carried by our new, very wonderful Pope Francis!
It consists of eleven beads - one Our Father and ten Hail Mary beads - of genuine semi-precious gemstone beads in a generous 8mm size. The single Our Father is a genuine Tree Agate - mottled green, it resembles the canopy of a tree. The ten Hail Mary beads are two different kinds of natural gemstones, alternating. Five of them are Leopard Jasper - a really beautiful stone of with mostly red and black markings - you can see how it gets it's name! Highly-polished; every single stone is different, with colors ranging from red, brown black, brown and more. The other five stone beads are genuine Russian Serpentine - a very attractive olive green stone with speckled or swirled black markings. As with all natural stones, occasional imperfectly-round beads - mostly with the Tree Agates - just add to the interest and natural beauty of the chaplet.
These natural beads with their earth-toned colors are great for a man or boy, yet beautiful enough for the gals, too, especially if they like nature or natural materials; or who admire the big cats or the beauty of nature! My sister made two of these chaplets, yet due to the variations in color and markings of such natural stones, each is a one-of-a-kind creation! The one you purchase will look like one of those pictured; as I took at least two pictures of each one.
The 1" oval St Ignatius medal is nickel silver and made in Italy; it has a bit of oxidation which gives it a vintage look. The unusual 1-1/2" silver-toned Good Shepherd crucifix was made in Italy only since Pope Francis was elected, and is quite interesting. I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but with some study I can see it is supposed to stand for Jesus as the Shepherd of His Flock, just as we look to the Pope as our Shepherd. Jesus is shown with his arms crossed and hands holding a saved Lamb across his shoulders - as He carried our sins on the cross on his way to Calvary. This crucifix can move you to tears. The back of the crucifix has the words "Vedele", "LAL" and "Italy" which as far as I can tell is the company in Italy where the crucifix was made; and possibly the artist who created it.
The combination of Pope Francis' crucifix and St Ignatius Loyola is a fitting one, also, since St Ignatius is the patron saint of Jesuits, the order of Pope Francis. These crucifixes are rare!
The chaplet was designed and handmade in the USA by my sister, Joan.
Besides being a traditional gift for a soldier or veteran, this would also be a great gift for someone who does Bible Study or teaches religious classes of any kind - someone who is a soldier for Christ! Anyone who is a soldier of the Church Militant in these troubled times will appreciate the intercessions of St Ignatius and the refreshing strong leadership of our Pope Francis! St Ignatius is the patron saint of Jesuits, soldiers, theologians, education and teachers. Chaplet is approx 9" long and comes gift boxed. Also comes with the following:
How to Pray the Rosary pamphlet
The 15 Promises of Mary
How to Pray the Divine Mercy
St Ignatius prayer card
Pope Francis prayer card
gift bag and tissue paper
St Ignatius came from a noble Spanish family, was a page in the court of Ferdinand and Isabella, became a soldier, and when he was wounded by a cannonball, he experienced a conversion while recovering. St Ignatius first became a holy pilgrim, then studied theology, worked to convert Muslims (truly a saint for our troubled times today) and eventually established the Jesuit order.
