This is the first flash I've used in DSLR photography. Flash technology is overwhelming compared to the old film SLR flash I used decades ago. The F56 is not the most powerful flash made, but it is highly capable and versatile. I've used it off camera in wireless (non RF) mode, on camera, bounce etc. Guide number seems to be very accurate. I'm glad it had the manual; I'd be lost without it. The battery pack is a great addition. I did a 3 hour shoot recently and didn't have any battery issues. I wish the flash had a pullout white screen, but a 3x5 index card works nicely instead. I like it so much, I just bought a second one.

I needed a more powerful and adjustable flash for my SONY A580 camera, my MINOLTA 3600HS is great but it lacks the ability to swivel and do strobe stop motion. I was going to buy the sony F58AM but I saw this model and they've always had great reviews. I'm not sorry I bought it and you won't be either. totally different class of flash than the F36 or F42AM, very powerful and plenty of extra features like strobe, variable power, the side to side and downward swivel and the backlit display is great for night shooting
This is a great flash unit. It syncs perfectly with my camera and makes it easy to operate. I can now get good shots at quite a distance. I also like the fact you can use it as a remote flash. Much easier than setting up a light stand and a lot less weight to carry. I'm still learning the features of the flash unit and I am sure I will like it even more.

This flash is great! I bought it to use with my Sony A350. It was the top end model until the 58 came out a few months ago. Other than the 58 will tilt side to side, they are very close. The wireless mode works great! I haven't tested the range but I have used it approx 8-10 feet from the camera. The flash reads the lens that connected to the A350 and adjusts the flash as you adjust the lens! My photos have improved 200% with this addition!
