Bought one of these used for $300 CDN. Sounds good, very solid unit. The unit has Burr Brown DACs. I can't say for sure that it sounds much different from my previous unit, a NAD 5220 as I don't subscribed to a lot of the audiophile hoo-haw floating around. It does sound good, however. As I said, it's a very solid unit andI expect to be using it for years.

The Sony CDP-D500 is a very solid, durable CD player made for years of heavy duty commercial use. It has a very good Burr Brown 18 BIT 1702 DAC that is not used on any other Sony CD player. It has ES quality with lots of extra options used by radio stations, etc such as fade in and fade out, and by number selecting or simply dialing in the next song or dialing ahead a few seconds or more backwards or forward if you want to skip or play back with a dial. Very full sounding CD player and I have listened to many different Sony CD players. Makes a good transport or sounds wonderful with it's own DAC. You will not be disappointed. Made from 1998-2000. Only 2-3000 made based on serial numbers. Not very many around.

These are great units. Made for years of professional use and as CD’s players go, these are the finest. And, from what I understand the DAC.s are to this day, top notch. That is a remarkable thing in our time.
