I am Italian and I thought that this was going to have recipes that would have been better than the ones I already have, since Theresa acts like she is so Italian. I doubt she ever cooks. The recipes that I have tried were nothing special. I have better ones that I have cooked for years. Just my family ages old recipes that I learned from my Grandmother & my Mother In Law (who were from Italy). They were the best cooks (home cooking for the family). I have many of their recipes and make them all the time. This cook book was very disappointing to me. Most of the recipes aren't even appetizing by their ingredients. Sorry, but that is how I feel. Forget recipes...this book is all about a unbelievably self-involved woman/author and her very strange and rather trashy New Jersey family. I became quite tired of the inane stories, antidotes and posed, overdone pictures. Her husband adds his comments as well, none of which has anything to do with cooking however...Who wants to read what he thinks about a visiting friend who was sexually active when their children were present?...UGH...and his inappropriate comments just kept coming! Rather than sharing her cooking tips and old family recipes, the author filled pages upon pages with excuses...trying to explain the childish and aggressive behavior that she exhibited on her television show. Not to mention her nauseating praise of her family and friends...at the same time taking every opportunity to slam her so called enemies. It was like reading a soap opera script! Who cares? Answer...certainly NOT me or anyone else who may be simply looking for a great pasta recipe! I read this poor excuse for a cookbook and was very, very disappointed...so I listed it on eBay for a super low price the very same day.Read full review
I got this book 2 days ago and have already finished reading it and tried 3 of the recipes. Teresa is so funny I had to read it from front to back before I could put it down. She talks about slowing down to enjoy your life and it really made a lot of sense. My hubby liked getting the before dinner sip of limoncello followed by Joe's favorite chicken dinner. It was simple to make but took a little time to bake. I thought it was worth the wait. Thanks for such a fun cookbook. Who knows I may just try my hand at canning tomatoes this season! If you love the NJ housewives this book is a must have.
This book is full of delicious, eay-to-make, authentic, Italian recipes. Though these dishes are good, I would not recommend this book for an expereinced Italian cook. This book would be great for anyone who has never made an Italian dish before, but I come from a large Italian family and found that the recipes in this book are simple dishes that are made daily in my home.
I always thought Italian cooking would be too rich for me, going by the way Italian food is presented in our restaurants, but - REAL Italian dishes are light and not full of a lot of ingredients to make you feel stuffed. I can't wait to make Teresa's dough for pizza and I've already tried Joe's mothers Tiramisu' dessert, delicious and so easy. I can't wait to start cooking "Skinny Italian" and see the results ! Great stories in the book too. Thanks Teresa
