Restored and improved images
Sitting Bull was the Hunkpapa Lakota chief and holy man who defeated General Custer at the Battle of Little Bighorn on June 25, 1876. The photo on the left shows Sitting Bull seated and holding a calumet (peace pipe). It was taken by Orlando Scott Goff about 1881. It is believed that the photo on the right was taken in 1883. A 5-inch by 7-inch (5x7) print of the photo on the right will be included with your print order regardless of the size your request for the left photo. Please see our other great photos of Native Americans and other famous people as well. Scroll down to see our discount on additional purchases and free-item offers. Check out all our items!
You will receive two 5x7 prints, one of each shown, that will ship the next business day after you pay, unless you request substitutions in eBay on the same day that you pay. The substitutions that are available are described below. You can request one 8x10 or 8x12 of the photo on the left, or both images on a CD at no additional charge. 11x14 and larger-size prints of the photo on the left are also available for an additional charge (see below). The photo on the right is not recommended for larger sizes due to its lower resolution.
These improved reproductions have been or will be custom-made for you new, from a photo lab. We have taken great care to preserve the sharpness and antique look, while removing scratches, stains, spots, and other damage that would make them less viewable. We have repaired imperfections and improved tonal values.
Why buy these photos: These prints would be good conversation starters in a restaurant, lobby, waiting room, classroom, office, library, or museum. Decorators use our sepia-tone prints in a variety of ways to make them look old (see "Tone options" below). These photos can be resold in a store (see "Wholesale lots" below). Our photos can be used in school reports, presentations, and displays. The photo on the left is a significantly improved version of the image and must be licensed for use in a publication, production, or other product (see "Licenses" below).
Custom processing: If you request substitutions for the left photo, we will custom make your print after we receive your payment, usually within 48 hours. This means that you can choose an alternative size, tone, finish, or CD (see below). We ship custom-made prints or CD quickly, usually within 2 or 3 days. So, you must specify substitutions on the same day that you pay. If you do not request substitutions, we ship your 5x7s the next business day after we receive your payment.
Size options: The bid and/or Buy It Now prices shown are for two standard 5-inch by 7-inch (5x7) prints. However, you can substitute an 8x10 or 8x12 print of the photo on the left, or both images on a CD at no additional charge. Be sure to make your request when you pay. Or, to substitute 11x14 or 12x18 of the photo on the left, you can ask us to add the cost to your eBay invoice before you pay. If you have already paid, you must request the larger size in eBay messages on the same day that you paid. We will tell you how to pay the additional amount. You may be asked to purchase an add-on eBay item (upsize) that covers the additional cost. You must pay for the upsize item on the same day that you paid for this photo, so that we can make your large print on the next business day and ship it promptly.

Tone options: Your prints will have a sepia tone as shown unless you request grayscale for the photo on the left. Sepia is the color of old photos today, caused by acid in the old paper. Many people prefer the warm sepia tones over cold black and white. Your sepia prints will be on acid-free paper, but it will look old. Grayscale or "black and white" is the way modern prints are often made from silver negatives. Side-by-side examples are shown for comparison on our "About our photos" page in our eBay store.
Sepia (old look): Default tone
Grayscale (black and white) of the photo on the left: Request when you pay
Finish options: Your prints will have a luster finish unless you request glossy for the photo on the left when you pay. Glossy reflects glare but appears to be a bit sharper. Glossy also shows fingerprints more.
Luster (dull, less glare): Default finish
Glossy (shiny, more glare, looks sharper) for photo on the left: Request when you pay
Border: Your prints will have minimum borders. This means that there may be some white edges (less than 1/4 inch wide) outside the images so that you can display the maximum amount of the images in typical devices that hide the edges of the prints.
Quality: We select the highest-quality images we can find on a given subject and carefully restore and improve them. Old photos do not meet today’s high standards due to the limitations of the materials and methods available in those days, and due to aging and damage. But we improve them as much as we can while preserving an old look. Then we process them using modern archival methods so they can be affordable and last for many years.
CD option: You can request to substitute a CD instead of prints. The CD will contain one or more versions of each image that are optimized for digital presentations, websites, and e-mail. The images will not exceed 1200 pixels in the longest dimension, and thus may not fill the screen when used for high definition displays. If we have additional information about the image, we will include a text file as well. You must request the CD in eBay on the same day that you pay. The CD and images shall not be printed nor reproduced for sale nor distribution.
Packaging: We ship 5x7, 8x10 and 8x12 prints and CDs flat with a stiff board to prevent folding, in a sturdy envelope. 11x14 and 12x18 are rolled and shipped in a sturdy mailing tube.
Shipping time: If you do not request substitutions, your 5x7 prints will ship the next business day after we recieve your payment. You can request substitutions in eBay on the same day that you pay, but they will take a day or two longer to ship because they must be custom made. If you purchase additional items to ship together, an extra day or two may also be required. The time required by the postal services to deliver your photos depends on shipping method, Customs requirements, weather, holidays, and other factors beyond our control.
Shipping cost: This item is sold with packaging materials and handling included in the price. Domestic postage is also included. For destinations outside the U.S.A., buyer pays actual postage.
