I'm a professional voice artist. The KSM27SL is certainly a strong contender for a high quality professional mic. Comparing this microphone to the Shure SM58 is like comparing chicken to chicken excrement. Yes, the KSM27 is that much better. It has a smooth, even response without adding any "tinny" edges to what you are recording, including voices. Captures the full resonance of my (male) voice, and does it justice by any standard. Like most condenser mics, very sensitive, also captures the sound of the computer fan, or the ticking of the clock on the wall, so expect to use this mic in a good, quiet sound-proof studio, either a well soundproofed home studio or a professional recording studio. Requires a minute of playing with your equalizer to tweak it to perfection, but then, all mics need that. I wouldn't say it's equally as good as a top of the line Neumann, but then again, it won't bankrupt you like a top of the line Neumann, either. I would match the KSM27 with any microphone in the under $1000 range. I seriously doubt if you would be disappointed with this mic for any professional application, voice or instrument. As with most condenser mics, requires phantom power, so you'll need a preamp or appropriate mixer to provide that.Read full review
This is my third KSM 27, and I have over three dozen mics. These things are an amazing value. Largely on the neutral side, with a very small lift in the upper midrange, you can get useful results on just about any source. And it is rugged enough to be used in live situations with confidence.

This thing kicks ass. It's highs have really rounded out my cymbal sound - always had previously sounded really tinny and a lot of the drums' highs were creeping through. Has the switches to adjust the levels that the microphone takes at. Like that but usually only use the one setting.
Used it for the 1st time-violin sounded exceptional in live performance. I can hear the difference from the legendary Shure SM58 dynamic mic to this one--definite improvement. The KSM27 gave the violin a natural rich full body sound. I will know more after I have used it in several different applications. Very pleased with the results of its performance so far.
