This is a fun film, especially if you’re looking for escape and something where you don’t have to think. It’s also a reunion experience if you’ve seen the television series. There are sufficient flashbacks to the series that help provide context for those new to S&TC, so it’s not necessary to have seen the television episodes to enjoy the film. The stories of the four girls are consistent with their characters, all a little self-absorbed and materialistic. Samantha is the most interesting character in the film, as she was in the series. Torn between her free spirited sexual desires and society’s expectations, her conflicts were the most credible and entertaining. Maranda’s character didn’t resonate as well in the film. Her ongoing separation from Steve didn’t seem consistent with her analytical self. Her character was short-sheeted in the film. Charlotte is always a gas and didn’t disappoint in maintaining her Pollyanna approach to life. It would have been nice to see more of her life with her family. Carrie is a fun main character when she is with the rest of the girls, but her overreactions within her relationship became tiresome and threatened the credibility of the story. Of course, the ending is predictably a happy one. If you enjoyed the television series, you’ll enjoy this film. If you have a passion for high fashion and glam, there’s plenty of eye candy for the materialistic. Thankfully it’s not so over the top to make those of us less interested in designer things too sick. Except Carrie’s big wedding attire – that was ridiculous. Overall, I’d recommend this film. It’s a chick flick to be sure, but I’d love to see a sequel. One that is a little more realistic in following the lives and loves of these characters.Read full review
I was afraid this movie would be a let-down after a great final season of the series. Was I wrong! This movie delivers and may even top the series. Everyone has moved on a little but also is as I remembered them - Carrie in her avant-guard high-fashion (don't buy me a ring - just give me a great closet) and steamy partnership with Big, Miranda (still a workaholic and just as wittily ascerbic -- apropos Halloween costumes: Witch or sexy kittne -- those are the only choices for women!), Charlotte (finally fulfilled in a loving relationship with Harry), and Samantha (still with Smith but struggling with monogamy). The trouble starts when Carrie and Big decide to marry; but the wedding becomes a highly orchestrated freight train that terrifies Big. He flees the church but almost immediately recovers his nerve -- an instant too late. In a classic scene, Carrie beats him with her bouquet of roses and her friends close ranks around her, taking her away, ultimately on a honeymoon for four. On her return, Carrie starts a new life without Big, but she doesn't seem to date again, a big clue about how things will end up. After adopting a baby, Charlotte becomes pregnant and, fittingly, her water breaks while she is upbraiding Big. But it is shoes rather than Charlotte that lead to the suitable and satisfying ending.Read full review
I love this movie. It's entertaining, funny, some drama, it's shows that no one is perfect. You can make mistakes in life, but it will lead you to a different path by learning from those mistakes to hopefully better yourself. And Gilles Marini. He is so easy on the eyes to watch. I even have my husband watch his shower scene. Why did I buy it? It was $8 cheaper to buy it on E-bay as apposed to Wal-Mart.
There's nothing new to this movie if you have seen even a few episodes of the TV series. You see a lot of pretty dresses, lots of pretty shoes, lots of pretty but clearly ageing women, & lots of hunky men. The plot is so predictable that you can actually play a game of who can predict the next scene most accurately. If you are looking for a movie to show with the girls, this would be the right one. However, having your boyfriend watch this movie with you....at your own risk. By the end of it, he'll either be dead, or brain damaged, or dump you, or discover that he's gay. Watch it if you have nothing better to do & forget it the moment you turn off the dvd player.
The dresses, the flowers, the smack-down, the girl-friends, hahaha gotta love it! I was never a fan of the show and took time to actually even rent old seasons of it but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I think that's what is also so good about - you don't have to be a fan of the show to enjoy this movie. If you love fashion, gossip, drama and girl gushiness in your flicks then this is the perfect couch melt with ice cream rental! I sold my copy on ebay and kind of regret it, oh well! :P
