FACTORY REFURBISHED SCENE MACHINE MODEL 2100 WITH ROTATING CAMERA MOUNT
Photographers around the world are discovering that the background can be one of the most important
components of studio photography to enhance sales and profits. There is no more effective and efficient
way to create unlimited backgrounds in the professional portrait studio than through the use of background
A Virtual Backgrounds system can project an infinite variety of transparencies as well as any
media that affects the passage of light. A Virtual Backgrounds system can also be used to project solid
colors for Chromakey (commonly called “green screen” or “blue screen” technology) which results in considerably
improved results compared with green paper or green cloth backgrounds. Scene Machine systems can also be adapted for use with video cameras with projected
backgrounds, including Chromakey backgrounds.
The Scene Machine is by far the best known Virtual Background system. Over the 25 years since it was first
developed, the Scene Machine has gone through many major technological improvements.
Scene Machines occasionally become available from estate sales or from photographers who never learned to
use them properly and don’t know the powerful tool that they have in their possession. However, too often, buyers of used Scene Machine systems are disappointed with what they receive or they often do not even know what the system should have been like. They may even consider inferior results as normal. Projectors are often sold with missing parts or are seriously out of alignment.
Virtual Backgrounds, the manufacturer of the Scene Machine and Spectravue Virtual Backgrounds systems,
occasionally receives used systems and completely refurbishes them at the factory to bring them up as
much as possible to current specifications. Systems are offered with a 90 day limited warranty as well
as a 14 day return privilege if the buyer pays shipping in both directions and returns the equipment
in the condition in which it was received.
In addition, buyers of refurbished systems have 3 months
to trade their system in for a new Virtual Backgrounds system, for full value, if it is returned, prepaid,
and in the condition in which it was received.
With the purchase of this refurbished Virtual Backgrounds system is included the opportunity for the buyer
to attend a three-day Virtual Backgrounds training workshop held each month in San Marcos, Texas.
The workshop is normally priced at $495 but is free with this purchase. The buyer also receives free
of charge normal technical support from Virtual Backgrounds personnel as they set up and operate their
system, just as if they had purchased a new system.

LET THE BUYER BEWARE
Occationally a Scene Machine system can be found for sale on e bay or some other equipment exchange list. We are often asked by photographers our opinion on such sales. The answer is that you need to be careful, actually you need to be very careful. There are many factors to consider and there is still a substantial risk.
First many photographers do not know how old the equipment is that they are considering. There have been many improvements in the equipment since the Scene Machine was first introduced on the market back in the 80s. For a long time, Scene Machines were designed for use with film cameras. For use with SLR and DSLR cameras, a special rotator had to be developed with the early rotators not fitting many cameras and being of a very different design than what is sold today. If it is an older machine, the purchase of a rotator will be necessary. There have been a number of changes in the power supply with many improvements. The beam splitter on older machines must be specially aligned by the user for optimum performance. There is also the risk of the machine structure being out of spec. We often find when we get a machine back for reconditioning that it is not within specifications. The rotator is fundamental. It is not an accessory.
If you get a bad projector, it can usually be fixed but it can be costly. The bigger problem is the screen and Blackscreen. Over the years we have made many technical advancements in both components making the system far more effective and easier to use. The biggest problem is screen damage. Sometimes problems with the screen can be minimized with a special cleaning process that we utilize. But scratches and stains are permanent. Black screen damage cannot be fixed. We have found that many screens on the used market have been abused. When we get a badly damaged screen back, we cut it into small pieces and sell the reflective material for application on props. e are able to cut out the damaged material. There is also the possibility that the machine may not have been fully paid for and therefore could be considered stolen by whomever handled the financing. Be sure to make the seller supply proof of ownership before sending money. And be sure that the seller is sending the system with original packaging. We have seen systems that were improperly packed with makeshift containers.
Used background projectors and screens not purchased through Virtual Backgrounds have not been reconditioned. They do not have a warranty. They do not include our training workshop. They do not come with customer service and technical support. And they often do not even include all the parts.
One of the biggest problems is that an unwary buyer of used systems may not know when they have a system that is not working properly because they have never used a system before. They may continually use a defective system or they may give up and stick it in a corner not knowing that the issues they are dealing with do not have to exist.
Virtual Backgrounds often has reconditioned systems available for sale. Yes, the price might be somewhat higher but each projector has been carefully reconditioned to meet factory specs. The screens have been thoroughly examined, cleaned when necessary, and documented with special notes about its condition before it is sent to a customer in the proper packing containers. If a screen has some defects, the prospective buyer is told exactly what to expect. The price varies according to the quality of the screen when examined by Virtual Backgrounds experts.
The buyer of a reconditioned system from virtual backgrounds automatically receives the 495.00 workshop, full customer service and technical support, and a warranty.
When looking for a way to save money by purchasing a previously owned virtual background system, be sure to first check with your Virtual Backgrounds consultant. If possible, give them the serial number of the projector so they can check the records. Virtual backgrounds is such an important tool for your studio that we want to make sure that you are working with a quality product so you can get optimum results.
