When your competition in the rotary magazine department is either Ruger or Mannlicher...coming up with improvements on the design...however slight...should have been a no-brainer. Seems as though Savage cut cost corners with this magazine...along with the accu-trigger for the A22 and A17. The magazine will seat positively...if you remember to leave the bolt open and locked back. One hand for the magazine, and one for the rifle, doesn't leave an extra hand to pull and hold the bolt open manually. Loading needs a deliberate repetition of moves. New, the magazine is stiff and the rotor is reluctant to turn. A short shot of Hornady One Shot case lube will slick things up without gumming up the works internally....making loading of the magazine a lot easier. No feed-function problems. The rifle, an A22, came with one magazine. Had to purchase a magazine marked for the A17 (17 hmr) for a spare, couldn't find one designated for the A22. Would have liked to have seen metal feed lips on this magazine...wondering what the life of the polymer lips and catch/release will be.Read full review

Love the design of this magazine. I keep two in my pocket and 1 in the gun to save time while I’m in the woods. The ones I have are the type with the spring at the rear that keeps the clip in the gun, there is a type that the model plastic keeps the ‘clip’ keeps it in the gun... this type doesn’t work at all but he spring loaded one is great!

Well, it's a Savage Arms product so you already know it's going to perform just as well as the original magazine that came with the rifle. They both perform exactly as the original and in fact, the only way I can tell them apart is, the original has a little silver dot on the back of it and these don't.

I’ve had a fairly significant fail-to-feed problem with the original clips that came with the A17. Two full clips in each of these new ones and no f-t-f issues thus far. I have made sure that the clips are all the way forward after they’re locked in place. The metal spring holding the locking device seems to be an improvement vs. the all plastic tab design. Maybe Savage has changed the design of clips that come with the rifle— I’m unsure about that. Anyway, it seems to be a good improvement.
