Beautiful custom hackamore rig/set up from my private collection. This set is shown on my QH mare which takes a standard horse length bridle but has a wider than average palate hence requiring nearly a 5 1/2" bit. This should give you an idea of the size horse that it is currently set up for, and how much you can take it up or let it out yet.
3 piece set sold in this listing:
Consisting of a hand braided browband headstall in brown and black kangaroo in mint, like new condition in the West Coast style and devoid of hardware-where the owner adjusts it to the individual horse/bit combination, via sliders and knots. This is horse size and generous in either direction so would fit small and larger horses. The bit ends are adjustable and will accomodate a bosal of any thickness or any type of curb bit or snaffle. Features tight, master braided knots that will not slip but are easy to adjust, sliders, rings and a gorgeous alamar knot which graces the browband. Sadly I do not know whom braided this piece but when you get this into your hands you will see how much work and talent went into braiding it and how experienced the braider was as it is flawless. Kangaroo for the thickness I am told is stronger than most any type of leather used for braiding.
Secondly is a 5/8" kangaroo bosal, also brown. Again not sure on maker but it is gorgeous, flawless, balanced and smooth. It is horse length but here again will fit a larger or smaller head depending on how many wraps you take with the mecate. Is in excellent, like new condition.
Last but not least is a beautiful Sara Hagel 6 strand mecate, salt and pepper grey, off white and sorrel brown and is a pattern change mecate-meaning there are two patterns within the length, something that master horse hair craftsman only would tackle. 22' x 1/2", features her fancy marked popper with serial number and date along with her makers mark. This is in excellent condition apart from two small spots shown where it wraps the bosal, where it sadly looks like it was mouthed briefly by a colt. It happened prior to me getting it and has not progressed at all. Twists are quite tight in those spots and had no completely broken strands of twist that I could see when inspecting it. Rest of the mecate looks like new since has been used very little and hasn't had the prickles worn smooth. Her mecates are scarce to find used, she normally only makes them to order. She has a waiting list of orders on the books and last I spoke with her she was a long ways out on having any available to the public for sale as most sell prior to her posting them for sale.
If you love braiding and collect, show or use your gear on a daily basis you will love this set.
