I bought a Alias for my wife since she wanted to text more. After she got her's I got one for myself. We both like the fact that it is a dual flip phone. She says the buttons could be bigger. I wish it had the anounce caller that my other verizon phone had. The battery life is average and it's small and compact. Hooking to my pc or a bluetooth is a snap! The camera takes good pictures and the video is pretty good too. I don't know if it is the ring tones themselves or the phone, but a few of them you can barely hear. The one's I downloaded that is! charge time is quick and battery talk time is fair to average. I don't use the music player that much, but from what I have it works great. It will just kill your battery a lot faster! If you want a good phone for talk, texting, playing music or bluetooth this would be the one to get. It's easy to understand and use. Just be sure you buy one that comes with the USB cord and the headphone adapter, ac/ and car adapter. You don't need any software as everything is easy to download. The USB adapter is a must if you want to update the phone or down load or upload pictures. Watch the prices. Don't go for the first one you see. you'll find a great deal.Read full review
The Alias is a great phone as it is slim, easy to use and has a keyboard that allows one to type with ease. The buttons are easy to push and very practical. Some complain about getting confused with the buttons when you flip the phone open, but I have not experienced that. The reason I chose this phone is that I am writing many txt messages and got tired to have to push the same buttons to choose my letters, no more of that problem with this phone. the only drawback, as with all Samsung phones, is the battery life which is rather short. The camera is not that great either. I highly recommend this phone for those who don't want to go to a Blackberry but yet want the ease of typing on a regular keyboard.
I was using a LG Envy. That phone is big and drain the battery so I got an extended battery and it got BIGGER. LG tries hard to make a good phone, I guess the hardware is not bad but the software is amature-ish. Envy couldn't do speaker phone unless u open the the flip, option menu is skimpy, setting alarm takes way to many buttons strokes, touch pad is a car accident waiting to happen. So I bought a Samsung Alias. I had a samsung before and compare to LG, everything is a little better, but just. (i have had 77 phones and I know what I want) The Alias is smaller but still drains a lot of power (maybe I talk too much), so I bought an extended battery; even with the extended battery, the phone is acceptably small. The flip panel feels flimsy so using it will take some care. Buttons are small, so people like Shaq should not even try. Some awkwardness comes when the phone is sideways and trying to dial numbers (they r sideways too). Software is better than LG but take a lesson from SonyEricsson smartphone P1. The Alias is difficult to use when hooking on to the internet becoz it does not have touch screen; that round dial is a lousy mouse. Ring volume is weak even at max. Every phone maker should use the charging system from Sony Ericsson. Speaking of all the phone makers..why can't you people use the same kind charge system, with same plugs and adaptors for power and ear phones and everything? Hey, you phone engineers, it can't be that tough to design the perfect phone. For dialing numbers, DON'T use touch screen, it's dangerous. Flip open to reveal a larger screen WITH touch screen. Full qwert key board is a must. I understand size is a concern, Nokia made a phone that opens to reveal a full key board with half on the right and half on the left; it also had a button dial board on the outside. The Alias could have been a great phone but it feels like Samsung rushed it out and was only 75% done with the design. In general, I feel the Korean phones are just inferior. Too bad Sony Ericsson doesn't make smart phones for Verizon (for that matter, Nokia. HTC also sucks, very disappointing)Read full review
The Alias is a pretty good phone overall, and a great phone for the price. Vertical flip makes for easy phone calls; horizontal flip opens the QWERTY keyboard for text. When in the middle of a task, like saving a phone number, you can open and close the phone to access both configuations and all your data will still be there. Not a brilliant music phone, acceptable camera (but again not great) but for every day communication, it's a great phone.
I've had this phone almost a year, and I can't say enough good things about it. I love (love, LOVE!) the music player, and with the VZW Music Manager gear, I'm able to transfer my own MP3's to it from my PC, saving me $$$ over GetItNow. The ability to set multiple weekday alarms has come in handy on my new job. I set up recurring alarms to tell me when it's lunch, break, and quitting time, so I don't have to monitor the time all day, which increases productivity. I also love that you can set up one-touch access to the functions you use most. Honestly, this phones' got more features than I actually use, but as my needs have changed, the Alias has been right there with solutions. The biggest problem I have with it is that my new boss is always asking to use it. I do recommend you physically try out the phone before you commit to it. The buttons are significantly smaller than on other phones, and that could be a deal-breaker for many people. I also highly recommend a good stereo handsfree set for listening to the music player. The phone has a speaker, and the sound quality is acceptable for voice calls, but not for music playback.Read full review
