I've been wanting a QWERTY type phone since I got an Exalt II, and I remembered I lost my old Alias 2 a long time ago, so I decided to switch back. I'll be comparing it to the Exalt II in this review. The UI (for calendars, settings and customization, etc.) isn't as good as the Exalt II, and the battery life is shorter. I believe this is due to the Exalt II being a much new basic phone than the Alias 2, so that's something to keep in mind. I have to charge the Alias 2 every night, as opposed to every three nights for the Exalt II. That being said, I LOVE the keyboard! The design is great, and the context keys are wonderful; not as distracting as most other keypads/keyboards on basic phones. Plus, being able to read and quick text messages is a great feature. I've always been a fan of flip phones, so having both T9 and QWERTY capabilities, without the buttons on the outside causing accidental pocket dialing, is awesome! All in all, great old phone model! They don't make 'em like they used to. I wish Samsung's basic phones kept the e-ink keyboard, but I guess it was too costly to produce. Shame, it's so good! -- "I'm all about dat dumb life. The phone came in its original packaging which was nice and it came with a car charger.... But no house charger. Second issue is the "water/moisture" stickers on both the phone and battery indicate the phone has gotten wet. And finally the battery will not charge and after checking is swollen.

Pros: This phone has a dual hinge which allows for the phone to open and close in two different manners. It opens the generic way a normal phone does (vertical) as well as horizontally. Vertical is for phone calls and normal use, horizontal is for texting. The phone can take photos in vertical or horizontal styles which is nice if you want a normal picture or a wide screen picture. I only use my cell phone to talk for about 20-30 minutes a day but average roughly 150 texts between receiving and sending and the battery life lasts about 3 days for me. Keyboard buttons are big enough so that you do not hit multiple buttons when texting. Sound quality is above average when playing music. I bought a converter so i can plug in normal headphones and listen to music and the music play doesn't seem to affect battery life much at all, and the sound quality is great. The phone offers an email service for something like $2.99 a month which is nice if you want email capabilities without the big data plan service for blackberry's and other smart phones. The phone syncs a 4 minute song in about 10 seconds when transferring music from your computer to your phone. They have added rubber bumpers on the edge of the phone so when you close the screen it does not leave marks on the screen from the screen hitting the buttons. (The alias 1 did this) There are a couple cool features you can use after taking pictures. Such as emboss, gray scale, black and white, and 3-4 other ones. You can also change the contrast, saturation, hue, merge photos, and lighting in photos. (Most new verizon phones with newer interfaces have these features.) If you are listening to music and you receive a text, phone call, or anything else that forces you to leave the music player, once you are done with your call or text, the music starts back up from where it left off. My girlfriend and I both agreed my 2 megapixel camera on my alias 2 took better and more crisp photos than her blackberry curve. I tried multiple micro SD cards I had lying around the house (a-data, kingston, corsair, a no name brand, and san disk) and the alias 2 recognized all of them. When recording video and taking photos i find neither to really suck up battery life. (The biggest threat to battery life is phone calls on this phone) Battery life is a bit above average I would say. The e-ink is an incredibly cool feature. You are able to change the buttons with a click of a button through use of ink and electricity ... awesome! Cons Some batteries have been found to be faulty. (people who are having trouble with poor battery life, 1 day or less should look into returning the battery as there is a rumor of defective batteries going around in these phones) If you open the screen really fast, it takes a second for the screen to turn on. When using the music player to play music, if you click options while listening to music, your music pauses until you leave the options menu. Phone doesn't come with the usb cable. The interface can be slightly slow at times but is completely tolerable for me at least. Overall this phone is a great upgrade from the alias 1. Many of these features listed above may be available on newer Verizon phones but between the dual hinge and the price of the phone I payed which was $29.99 when I was due for my 2 year contract upgrade I don't think you can beat the features this phone comes with.Read full review
Despite the description, this phone is GRAY, not black like I wanted. I really wanted the samsung Zeal, but this will have to do. The intuitive E-ink keyboard is different, but nice. It requires more pressure to make sure you hit the right letters when texting. But I still like it. The reception is nice and clear. The camera is only decent. Holding the phone to my ear hurts a little bit as the phone's edges are not rounded all the way through. I like the large display screen. You will have no trouble adapting to this phone if you are already used to the Verizon menu layout. Like some people I have heard say, you do have to use two hands to open this phone. It's slippery to open one-handed. The outside display is nice. With the right settings, you can have your text messages show up on the outside and read them before you even open the phone. The ringtones that came with it are cool, but I still like to make my own a website called myxer. When I did start making my own ringtones, I noticed that this phone runs quiet on the volume. You'll have to turn it up almost full blast if you make your own tones. But I actually prefer it that way. Overrall I guess it's a good phone. The price is average for a replacement. Although I would have to take a wild guess and say that this phone is NOT brand new and it is in fact REFURBISHED. I know this because the box and charger are not Verizon manufactured. But the charger that came with it is better because it's USB enabled. Awesome.Read full review
I had the origional Alias phone before purchasing this one. I love the way that it flips both ways. I tried a slide phone and seemed to get dirt and everything else in the way of the slide. I have always been a fan of the flip phone, yet have a lot of people that text. I like being able to have both comfortable keypads in this phone. It is also cool when the numbers change as you flip open the other way. It was a little hard getting used to the different placement of the keys. I do like the feature in text mode that allows you to see a number pad. The origional Alias you had to turn the phone to type numbers. Alias 2 is a little thicker than the origional, but is something that you can adjust to. I also tried a touch screen phone, and couldn't seem to hit the buttons that I wanted when texting. The Alias 2 has actual buttons to push. Overall, I love this phone just like I loved the first. I can't wait for them to come out with the next Alias. Not only do I love my phone, but so does everyone else. Lots of OOO's and AAAAH's when it flips both ways. It also has a music player, but I do not use that feature often. I do notice that the A2 buttons for the player lock when the phone "sleeps". You may be able to change that in the settings, but I rather like it.Read full review
