"Dali Alice" a highly collectible1969 Portfolio with only 2,500 printed. This is number 488.
In pristine condition and smells like it was just printed. It has been stored in the original box since 1969 and may have been viewed on rare occasion.
Folio is 2-3/4" by 18-1/2" by 12-7/8", single page is 16-7/8" by 11-3/8".
Mandeure paper pages are neither bond nor sewn but folded inside a sturdy, leather-spined box with bone pins to fasten it shut. The cover and interior of the cover are in impeccable condition. Gilt-lettered cloth chemise outer folio and gilt-lettered quarter tan leather clamshell box, with leather ties and bone clasp comes with the original cardboard box.
Signed by Dali on the frontispiece. It contains 12 illustrations with an original remarque on each of these illustrations. One original colored etching signed in the plate is opposite the frontispiece.
The pictures themselves are color heliogravures- full-page, one for each of the twelve chapters-executed at Ateliers Rigal and M. Nourrisson in Paris. The copper plates have been destroyed. Published by Maecenas Press-Random House, France. Copyright 1969 W.U.C.U.A.
Though the text of "Alice" plays a secondary role in the portfolio, it is splendidly printed, and more than that, it seems to have inspired Dali to some of his least vulgar, more appealing work.
Lewis Carroll's zany innocence acts as a brake to Dali's debauched zaniness.
