Totally exceptional Alex Singer tandem from the late 40s, full chrome, original and untouched down to the last bolt. This tandem displays the workmanship of the Csuka workshop at its very best. Certainly the best Singer tandem on eBay for many many years, this is a unique opportunity. Covered from one end to the other with the very best parts of the time, the bike has so much grace and character that it was difficult to stop taking photos..... French style at its best.... You can understand why the builders of this period were called "les couturiers du cycle". 53,5 cm center to top stoker, 59 cm center to top captain (52/55 cm center to center). Built for a shorter Madame at the back (hawk nose Idéale), taller Monsieur in front. The chrome isn't perfect, as you would expect from a bike 65 years old, but there is no deep corrosion. The important and wonderful thing about this tandem is that it is a superb model (chrome bikes were a huge price just after the war), absolutely unspoilt by restoration, and every part original. Most of the transfers are still there. This tandem is the equivalent in rarity and quality to a Brough Superior in the motorbike world, or a Bugatti in the car world. And it's complete, untouched, fully original.
Wonderful bike, perfectly proportioned.
Idéale 64 honey colour saddle. Original transfers.
Idéale 57 alloy base saddle. Incredibly graceful curves of the bars (matching front/back).
Elegant rear carrier. Coupled Cyclo springs to take the extra power.
Quadruple braze-on allows very fine tubing, very elegant solution for the Cylo RD hanger.
As crisp as possible.
Full Stronglight with the dust-covers, Rosa rings, Ad-Hoc pump, early Simplex tandem FD.
High flange Singer modified front Maxi-Car hub, you only see these on Singer's prize bikes.
Singer modified Lefol lever. Left hand controls coupled Maxi drum brake/rear cam driven Singer brakes.
Nice fillet-brazing.
Special braze-on for the Simplex FD.
Superb Singer threadless stem. Ad-Hoc bell. Sorry to go on again about the curve of those bars, but they ARE wonderful....
Freins Alex Singer decal, and the real thing, both visible in this shot.
Singer stoker stem. Can't remember if I mentioned it before, but the curve of the bars is rather nice. Too nice to cover with tape all the way round...
I hadn't noticed the chain had lifted off the Cyclo pulley, that chain line should be tighter, it's not a "chaîne flottante" tandem...
Singer brakes, Soubitez dynamo, very nicely bent out Lefol mudguard. Not easy to get a perfect curve like that.
Maxi drum brake.
Over-sized at the bottom of the steerer tube for better bearing surface. Magnifique short point fork crown.
Here again, amazing fillet-brazing.
Check out the very fine Singer cable-hanger.
Nivex dropout and modified Bell wing nut. The wheel just drops out when you undo the wing nut.
