2007 GIBSON Les Paul Standard Plus Special Edition
Flamed Heritage Cherry Burst
This is a great opportunity to buy a newer GIBSON Les Paul STANDARD at a very reasonable price. This is due to a neck / headstock repair that occurred three years ago............and has been certified as VERY STABLE (as Solid as a ROCK). I bought this guitar about four months ago and immediately took it to my luthier (35 years experience with Gibsons) who has personally repaired hundreds of typical Gibson neck / headstock cracks. The luthier put the guitar through several stress tests to see if he could get the headstock to move or show any sign of being unstable. He even heated the crack area to see if that would have any effect.......it did not! My luthier proclaimed the neck / headstock repair as being VERY STABLE (as SOLID as a ROCK).
I took it one step further over the next few weeks at home. I began monitoring the Les Pauls tuning stability.......checking it three to four times a day with a chromatic tuner. I subjected the guitar to various environments (air conditioning, ceiling fan, warm sunlight, and very heavy playing) and continued to check whether it remained in tune consistently. IT DID.........the guitar remained in tune with very tiny variations that are seen in almost all guitars. When I played the guitar (checking tuning before), I was not gentle...........aggressive string bending and very heavy chording. This Les Paul remained in tune like a champion! Basically, this guitar stays in tune as well as a $5000 Les Paul 1959 Reissue that I play regularly.
Very Stable (as SOLID as a ROCK)
However, I certainly understand that buyers are very wary of neck repairs (so am I). So I am hoping to overcome buyer concern by doing the following:
1. Set the sale price at an incredibly low price for a GIBSON Les Paul Standard with the features of this guitar.
2. Providing a "Return Policy" if a buyer is not satisfied with the stability of this great Les Paul. Please note that when a guitar is shipped or when strings are changed, it may take a guitar 24 to 48 hours to settle in an hold its tuning.
Features that make this Les Paul DoubleCut Plus a "Special Edition"
So many Les Paul Standards come without the cream binding on the body. You see that all the time where a Les Paul Standard Double Cut only has binding on the fretboard...........and none on the body. Look at the beautiful thick binding around the maple capped body of this Les Paul (see Picture 7). What makes this really cool is that the thick, cream binding matches the Zebra Humbuckers perfectly on this Les Paul. The use of uncovered Zebra Buckers is very rare on these guitars and also serve to make this a "Special Edition Les Paul Standard Double Cut".
I have recently been using a new format on my listings that refer buyers to pictures so I can fully & accurately describe the guitar. (Hope you don't mind.)
Pictures 1 and 2 show the beautiful Cherry Sunburst on this Les Paul and also its extensive horizontal flame.
Pictures 3 and 4 show the great condition of the headstock and upgraded Grover tuners. Serial number is shown. Also, on Picture 4, you can see the outstanding condition of the repaired neck break. Since it is stable, by luthier told me it would be a relatively inexpensive job to sand the area and repaint it totally covering the crack.
Pictures 5 , 6, and 7 provide different angles on the GIBSON Zebra Humbuckers. I did not take out the pickup as they are set up very well and I did not want to mess with them. However, my research indicates that these are buckers are matched Burstbucker Pros....(uncovered which adds to their agressive performance).
Picture 7 shows two important factors: 1) It shows the width of this Les Paul body ......it is wider than almost all Les Paul DoubleCuts I have seen. Adds to the big time sustain and tone of this LP Standard. 2) Notice the think cream antique binding.........almost 1/4 thick. Many DoubleCut Standards do not have this heavy binding.
Picture 8 shows part of the back and back of the neck (including the heel). It is in very good condition........smooth and fast neck.
Picture 9 and 4 show the repaired crack in the back of the neck...a "full smile" from side to side of the headstock. Picture 9 shows it better. Please note there was also a small wood chip that has been glued back into the neck. As discussed above, the crack is VERY STABLE and ROCK SOLID.........no movement at all. In addition, the cosmetic repair on the outside is very smooth and does not interfere with "the feel" of the neck.
Picture 10 shows back is in good condition. Nothing through the paint. Some light worming and scratches...............nothing serious.
Picture 11 and 12 show the guitar with its case. It is not the original Gibson, but it is a hardshell and fits the guitar very well (see picture 12).
In preparation of this listing, this guitar has had the following: 1) Cleaning and conditioning of rosewood fretboard with instrument grade Lemon Oil. 2) Frets have been cleaned and polished. 3) Full body, back of neck and headstock have been cleaned, conditioned, and gloss polished. 4) Bridge and tailpiece have been set up to establish the best playability* and intonation..........*I do not like too low of a string setting on a Les Paul. You can set string height to your personal taste.
In addition, extensive monitoring of the tuning was conducted (in regard to the stability of the repaired neck / headstock. I have not changed the strings. Current strings appear to be 9 to 42. I would recommend 10 - 46 for this guitar. I would also not recommend super heavy gauge strings such as 12 - 54 as it may put too much pressure on the neck.
So that covers pretty much everything. This is a great opportunity to get a flamed Les Paul Standard Double Cutaway Plus that plays and sounds tremendous. The repaired crack is "rock solid" and if you buy this guitar, you will have a great Les Paul Standard at an outstanding price!
