What You Will Get and How to Program It With The Arduino IDE
The best thing about this board is its price, and you'll get a lot of bang for the buck, including lots of memory, I/O (both digital and analog) and respectable processing power for such a small board and micro controller. It's fairly complex chip, containing an ARM® 32-bit Cortex®-M3 RISC CPU Core running at 72MHz (max), 20Kb of RAM, 64Kb of flash memory, four 16-bit general purpose auto-reload timers that can count up and down and be linked together (one configurable as a full-modulation PWM generator with complementary outputs), 1 Real Time Clock (the required external 32.768 KHz crystal comes on board), 1 SysTick down counter, I²C, USART, SPI, USB and CAN modules, two 12-bit Analog to Digital Converters, and 1 temperature sensor. Most peripherals are DMA capable. If you're used to Atmel's ARM chips you'll probably miss two things, though: the Digital to Analog Converter and the Event System, which are not present. This not bad at all for the price! The MCU comes with a serial (USART) boot loader from the factory (see AN2606 for details). Even though a USB port is present on the board, it cannot be used for programming. This is not a problem, since a USB-capable boot loader can be easily downloaded using a USB to serial adapter. Once this is done, then the USB port becomes usable and you'll be able to download sketches directly from the Arduino IDE. There is an excellent tutorial explaining the details. Just Google out for "Programming an STM32F103 board using its USB port (Blue Pill)". However, notice that to unleash the full power of this MCU, you'll probably need to forget about Arduino and consider ST's native development tools and software or equivalent alternatives. Be prepared for a steep learning curve if you'll decide to go this way. Hope this is helpful.

Great board but be prepared for some research
This is a really nice, fast board. I've been using it with the Arduino platform and you should be prepared to spend some time researching. You will need an FTDI 232 USB to serial adapter - not something that seems somewhat similar. I tried several other serial adapters and this is the only one that works. I bought mine from PeterTree - "FT232RL FTDI USB 3.3V 5.5V to TTL Serial Adapter Module for Arduino Mini Port". The RX and TX are pins A9 and A10. The boot jumper (the one furthest from the camera) needs to be moved to position 1, power up and then you can load your sketch. Note that this is a 32 bit processor and many of the libraries that work on Arduino do not work on this. You can usually find versions that do, but you'll likely need to dig in a bit to resolve issues.
