I have had many people
email me recently about this; There are some suppliers out there SAYING
that they are selling the OBSOLETE slightly faster charger model 92991
(part 2607224473) pictured on the right, BUT THEY ARE NOT! Sure, the
price seems good, until you discover that you will get the same one that
I sell on this auction, for less bread. And you will get it quicker
from me also! Just ask the seller what the part number is ON THE
CHARGER! They will tell you it is CHG02, and that the packaging shows
92991 (which is an error by Skil and a call to them will confirm this).
But I DO have the REAL 92991 on a different auction, if you really want
From these suppliers,
you get the smaller version on the left (CHG02) due to a packaging or
part numbering error on the part of Skil! The larger one is more
expensive and has the benefit of a slightly shorter charge time (1.0
hour for the larger 92991 versus 1.2 hours for the smaller CHG02 that I

NEW SKIL CHG02 charger, for 7.2 to 18 volt Skil
Batteries (96BAT, 120BAT/92993, 144BAT/92994 and 180BAT/ 92995). It has
an output of 1.0 amp and it is the charger shown on the LEFT in the
picture (the smaller one). The one shown on the right is the 92991 (it
charges 7.2 to 24 volt batteries at 1.2 amps). This is one of
the optional one-hour chargers which can be used in place of the
following 3-hour chargers; 92370 9.6-volt, 92490 12-volt, 92590
14.4-volt, 92990 18-volt and SC7218 7.2- to 18-volt multi-volt chargers
and the 1214PP and 1214PK corded back up charging system. Works with
drill models 2365, 2368, 2465, 2466, 2467, 2468, 2485, 2565, 2566, 2567,
2567, 2568, 2585, 2592, 2865, 2866, 2867, 2868 and 2882. Works with saw
models 2575, 4567 and 2892. Works with flashlights 2490 and 2590, and
with inflators/compressor models 2320 and 2420.
The 92991 will fully charge a battery in approximately 1.0 hours. The
CHG02 will fully charge a battery in approximately 1.2 hours. This is
due to the different amperage rates of the two chargers (mentioned in
the above paragraph).
Both chargers are SMART charger, which means they do things
intelligently, when it comes to charging a Ni-Cad battery (see below for
When first plugged in and with no battery plugged into it, there is a
solid green LED lit. This lets you know that it is on, and is
functional. Then, when you plug a battery into it, the LED flashes,
letting you know it is charging. If it doesn't flash, then your battery
is defective and it knows that, so it won't attempt to charge it. Or,
the battery may be very hot from being in the sun, or from being used
heavily. It will not charge a very hot battery, as it knows that this is
not good for it. It will charge the battery once it cools down for a
After approximately 1 hour of charging, the LED will stop flashing.
This lets you know the battery is charged. At that time, it
automatically stops charging at the full current rate, unlike the
inexpensive 3-hour chargers which continue to charge at the full rate as
long as the battery is connected to it. If the full charging current is
sent through a fully charged battery, all it does is heat up the
battery. Heat is NOT a friend to Ni-Cad batteries. It shortens the life
of the battery considerably, especially if the battery is continually
charged with full charging current even though it is fully charged. If
you read the Skil manuals supplied with all their products (and other
manufacturers, for that matter), they will tell you to disconnect the
battery from the charger after the 3 to 5 hour charge time.
But this charger does one better! It reverts to a trickle charge,
just like expensive car battery chargers do. This "trickle charge" is
only a fraction of the current is runs through a battery that is NOT yet
fully charged. Actually, after one hour, a battery is only charged
about 90 to 95%. This trickle charge "tops the battery off", if you
will. You may leave a battery plugged into a SMART charger like this for
more than an hour, and not worry about dramatically reducing its life.
It is still best to remove a charged battery from the charger, of
All that being said, if you have the extra bread to spend, and want
to get the most life from your expensive Ni-Cad batteries, THIS is the
charger for you. The CHG02 was virtually the same, but made cheaper, as
it is made to charge in 1.2 hours as oppossed to 1.0 hour for the 92991.
I don't believe Skil ever made any 24 volt products, but they were
probably looking to the future with that charger.
Manufacturers List Price = $58.99;
If you don't want to buy a charger and/or battery from me, do
yourself a favor and just ask the supplier to tell you what the model
number is that is ON THE CHARGER LABEL!!! If they won't, you can be SURE
they are going to ship you a CHG02 in packaging that states it is a
model 92991!!! And even if they DO say it says it is a 92991, but they
send you a CHG02, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING IT BACK TO THEM TO
GET A REFUND!!! And I advised Skil of their mistake, and they said they
will look into it, but that could take months before they fix their
packaging or their part numbering mistake! Just thought I should make
you aware of this issue, so you don’t almost get burned like I did!
Shipping for this item is listed at the very bottom of this auction,
in the eBay section entitled “Shipping, payment details and return
policy”, unless you are remote* (read below to see if you are considered
by FedEx to be "remote"). It will usually be shipped via FedEx Air
2-Day Service or US Postal Service 2-3 day priority mail with tracking
number emailed to you.
I must charge STATE sales tax of 5.6% on shipments to Wisconsin
locations (or items picked up in Milwaukee). There are no additional
fees to pick this item up in Milwaukee, WI other than the sales tax of
OVERNIGHT service is not available.
Please give me a CORRECT address!!
If FedEx or the USPS cannot locate your address (or if you aren’t
available during their 3 attempts to deliver the package, you will be
notified by FedEx via email and/or phone. So it is a good idea to
provide me with your phone number. It is also a good idea to be sure
your email address on your PayPal and eBay accounts is correct, as that
is how I reach people. If FedEx cannot reach you within 5 business days,
by law they must return the package to the shipper (me). But I get
charged for that shipment. If this happens, I can either refund your
payment (minus the original shipping fee, the return shipment delivery
fee, the EBay listing fee, the ending auction fee and the PayPal fees if
incurred), or you can pay for the return shipment fee to get it back to
me plus the new shipment fee to ship it back to you. In both cases, I
will only break even and will have made no bread on the transaction.
I ***WILL*** combine shipping!
If you want more than one piece of an item, or win more than one of
my auctions, your total shipping charge will be significantly reduced. I
have *NO* desire to "pad" my shipping/handling charges to make my
profits higher and your total costs higher… you will pay only the
approximate shipping charge that I pay. If you would like more than one
of an item or win more than one of my auctions, just contact me by
clicking on the "Ask Seller a Question" link in the upper right-hand
portion of this auction page.
I will ONLY leave feedback after feedback has been left for me. Too
often I have been threatened with negative feedback after I have left
positive feedback in advance. Sorry about that, but it is what ALL the
savvy sellers on eBay do!

WARNING ONE! Don't burn out your 3-hr charger, if you haven't already!!!!!!!!
If you try to charge a defective battery, or an old battery with some
defective (shorted) Ni-Cad cells inside, READ THE BELOW SECTION ABOUT
THE BATTERY TEST, which is from Skil/Bosch themselves! I don't want you
to burn out the new charger that I send to you!
To check whether your battery is good or not, and to prevent burning
out your 3-hour charger, go to my web page of ChargerPro (the ending of that website is the most COMmon internet type of site). If you don’t
have a voltmeter, try to find someone who does, as it is the only TRUE
way to determine if you have a good battery or not. Battery packs are
made up of numerous 1.2 volt Ni-Cad cells (10 of them in a 12-volt
pack). And if even just one of those ten cells shorts out, it can cause
your charger to burn out. Per the test below, if you try to determine
whether your charger gets "warm" or not, you could make a terrible
mistake and burn out your charger. Not many people can determine the
difference between a "warm" transformer and one that is "hot"!
WARNING TWO! Beware of other battery sellers on eBay!!!!!!!!
Often, these sellers have bought batteries that have been on
someone’s shelf unsold for many months or years. A NiCad battery cell
has approximately an 18-month shelf life, if not recharged. If the
seller is unwilling to charge the battery for you, and you want a
refund, you may be stuck shipping it back to them (with you paying
shipping back to them, and possibly paying the shipping for a new
battery sent to you).
WARNING THREE! Beware of non-BRAND tools sold on eBay!!!!!!!!
The price may look good, but wait until the battery pack needs
replacing (prematurely, as often they are made with inferior NiCad
cells), or the tool needs servicing! Try to locate a dealer that sells
parts or does repairs! Or find out FIRST what you have to do to get
service, once you pay to ship it to them for repair! The cheap imports
often use cheap materials that aren’t made to last like name-brand
WARNING FOUR! Beware of “FIX YOUR BATTERY PACK” auctions on eBay!!!!!!!!
I have had numerous buyers tell me horror stories of auctions that
purchased for information on how to fix their defective battery packs.
1) You can replace NiCad cells that are bad, BUT YOU CAN’T SOLDER THEM!
Heat is NOT a friend to a NiCad cell… it makes their life MUCH shorter
if exposed to excessive heat. They must be fusion welded, which produces
virtually no heat. Fusion welders are VERY expensive! 2) Yes, there is a
trick that you can apply a high voltage to a cell to “shock” it into
pretending to be good again, BUT THIS IS A VERY TEMPORARY SOLUTION! The
cell will very quickly revert back to its defective status in only a day
or two usually.
WARNING FIVE! Be kind to your NiCad batteries, and they will last a very long time!!!!!!!!
Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. For Skil, this mean you
NEVER leave your battery pack charging on a 3-hour charger for more than
5 hours (5 hours is needed to charge a battery fully if it has not been
charged in a while)! Those 3-hour chargers constantly charge at .25
amps, even when fully charged. All that does is heat up the cells, and
remember, heat is NOT a friend of the NiCad cell (see the below section
on 1-hour chargers)! It will make the life of your battery pack much
shorter. If at all possible, buy a timer and set it to be on for only 3
to 5 hours. You will get much longer life out of the battery pack that
You can leave your battery pack on a 1-hour SMART charger for a
longer period, since it reverts to a trickle charge once fully charged.
But you should still remove it if possible after fully charged, to
preserve the life of the battery. See the next section for information
about Skil 1-hour chargers.
