First, here is an example of some of the many comments, emails and feedback I have received from my customers who have purchased this item, but they all say pretty much the same thing...

Perfect 5 Star Seller! Amazing product!!! I really does work! Wow! Excellent!
I am so pleased with your product. I spent the day restoring several old designer pieces. They were in such bad shape that I was going to throw them away. After using your product, they look like new and have been given a second life.
This stuff really works! Took it out as soon as I got it and tried it! WOW!!!!
Thanks so much for offering your product on Ebay.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! Works Awesome!
This is the best thing to ever happen to vintage costume jewelry as far as I am concerned. I now have pieces to wear that I have not worn in years! ..... Love it!
There are lots more, but that being said - FINALLY, after about 6 years of trying I have come up with a formula to refinish or replate tarnished, worn or discolored vintage gold toned pieces and the back of damaged or worn vintage gold foiled colored rhinestones. I was originally attempting to find a solution merely to refoil the back of stones, but realized what a wonder it was to refinish or replate an old piece that had some bad places on it. Like many others, I tried every product I could find on the market, with disappointing results. The "paints" looked like the piece had been painted, and on the back of rhinestones it dulled them and did not allow the light to shine through.
This is a mixture of different amounts of 7 different colors of ultra fine gold leaf and mica metallic powders to most closely resemble the actual color of most gold foil backings and settings (Except for brass, see my example below), but even on brass - although it does come through as quite brass, you can see how it increases the brightness. It might not be exact for some pieces or stones, but I have found it does not matter. There are billions of light reflecting particles in each tiny pinch of the product which allows the piece to shine, and it blends in magically to practically any gold tone. It does not obscure delicate etchings (see the back of the German brooch and the writing on the metal), or fine lines like the gold leaf "paints" you can purchase. I know that the color on the Germany brooch looks different in the pictures, but I only touched up the dark spots, not the entire back. It was just my camera or a change in lighting that makes it look a different color. You can refinish an entire piece or just a bad spot. I have even used it on a tiny mesh bracelet and it does not glob or fill in the holes. It worked perfectly. I just used a wider brush and kind of squished it through.
In the last two pics you can see two stones that I re-foiled with such paint. You can see how it dulled the stones and in the triangle if you look closely you can see the strips where the paint met the original foil.
With this method, you do not need to remove the old foil, you can just re-cover the entire back of the special rhinestone you are trying to save. It all blends and the stone retains the sparkle and light reflection. It also works wonderfully to refoil the backs of special effect colored rhinestones. It almost seems to enhance their colors.
The kit consists of about 1/8th ounce of the powder and 1/4 ounce of clear gloss mixing medium made specially for the powder. You only need a tiny tiny pinch of the powder and a tiny dollup of the medium. The kit should contain enough to re-foil hundreds of stones even large ones. The only mistake I have made is to make too much at one time, and have to throw away what I did not use.
I have taken quite a few pictures showing the results. The process is really easy - mix and paint on with a soft small paintbrush - sable works best, but for my examples I used a cheap brush, but a sable brush leaves a smoother finish on the back of stones. The pictures show the pieces and stones from start to finish, front and back. again with the last pics showing a botched repair of stones with liquid gold metallic paint.
This is especially great to repair stones that you are putting into an open back setting. The re-foil does not wash off with water, soap or ammonia based jewelry cleaners. It is permanent.
The only caveat is that I find it does not work well with clear stones. Most clear stones have a base of silver foil which includes a mixture of 99% pure silver, topped with the gold foil. I did a few clear stones in my examples and it did lend them a slight golden tint. So, I would suggest this mainly or only for colored stones. After you try this once and see the gorgeous sparkle, you will no doubt come up with lots of other craft uses.
There are so many uses for this. One customer mixed it with iridescent eye shadow to refinish some beads on a vintage Trifari necklace.
Another used it to refinish the hood ornament on a vintage caddy. He had tried everything else imaginable but this worked! I have not re-touched any of the photos. I will include a little instruction sheet with each order.
If you find you have a need for silver or both, please check my other listings. I do sell the silver separately and a combo of both (which saves you some money). In full disclosure, I am not quite as thrilled with the silver as I am with the gold, but it does work (I have received great feedback) and it has saved many a silver toned piece for me. I just suggest you try it on a small area first to see if you get the result you are looking for.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Thanks! For refills on the mixing medium please see item 251466157454
