Up for auction is my 2011-12 winter project: a 1961 Bird Go Kart. I totally restored this kart and upgraded it with the following: NEW Disc Brake, NEW Bridgstone racing tires; 7.1x5 rear, 4.50x5 front, NEW seat cushion, New Tie Rod Ends, NEW LIVE Axle and bearings, NEW front bearings, NEW pedal pads, NEW Clutch and chain, and NEW Paint (forrest green metallic.) The engine is a 1962 5HP Tecumseh that runs like new. (it came off an old roto-tiller). The exhasut pipe is a one-off custom original I fabricated.
I have a lot of time in this project, and am only trying to get the money spent out of it, so I can do another. I'm retired, and this is what I enjoy doing in my spare time. I also have two wide, used rear tires that go with the kart( approx $30 value.)
This kart was not restored to original. I "hot rodded" it with a 'live' axle(used to have a stub axle,) Disc Braking (used to have a scrub brake,) and I also put a set of used Outlaw aluminum wheels and wide NEW bridgestone tires on it. I also adapted an 'adjustable' seat to fit shorter or taller drivers.
The kart does about 35 mph, and stops really nice with the disc brake. I don't think it will win any professional races, but it sure will be fun for some young boy or girl to have fun with. NOTE: This is a flat pavement kart, and will not do well off road or in grass.
Again, I'm trying to get my money out of it. I have over $750 invested in this project w/o labor taken into account. I have to limit the transport to local pick-up. However, if you really want to have it shipped, I can build a pallet and ship it FedEx freight, but it will be about $200. Therefore, I suggest local pick-up.
So I hope this meets with your approval. Happy bidding, and may the lucky person win!
