Just as an aside, I was looking at the web the other night and was shocked at the vintage stuff being sold for pretty high prices (many claiming to be "rare") There is nothing wrong with vintage equipment, in fact some of it is superb, however when someone is trying to sell you a 50 year old amplifier and telling you that the "tubes light" and asking $299-499 with no guarantee, you really need to step back and think. I even saw some pretty run of the mill stuff being offered as "rare", that was offered at a price 2-3 times what is was actually worth. I do a lot of restoration on tube power and integrated amps.  A minimum rebuild is around $300 not including tubes. If the idiot listing it burned out an output or power transformer "seeing if the tubes light up" It might be 2-3 times that for the correct transformer and rebuild. Do a bunch of looking before you buy any vinateg equipment.

This is a completely restored Realistic SAF-24D Integrated amplifier. Don't discount these type of amps, in the 60's-70 Radio Shack was a big player in electronics and contracted with major manufactureres all over the world to build equipment. These were very nice quality amps built in Japan. The use very large outputs (as large as most 6L6 outputs) and overated power transformers. The chassis are heavy cad plated steel and the wiring is all point to point. They used oil filled coupling caps (they were not the best choice-as the ones they used don't age well) The faceplates  are heavy anodized aluminum and the knobs are machined solid aluminium.  This chassis was extremely clean and the face is very nice.

This one is completely rebuilt with all the power supply and bias electrolytics replaced with new high quality caps. The large can was replaced with a new CE and the small can with individual caps.  Most of the oil filled cap coupling caps were replaced. Most were right on value but terribly leaky. This negatively affects the sound of the amp and can destroy tubes. In addition to the components all new tubes were put in this amp. The 4 outputs are new Russian 6BM8's (triode/pentode), the input and phase inverters are new JJ 12AX7/ECC83 tubes and the the rectifier is a new JJ 6CA4.

Features of this amp are;

Phono, Aux, Tuner, Tape in (and tape out) Stereo/mono swithc, Loudness comp, Tape monitor,Power switch, as well as a ganaged volume control and individual bass and treble controls. The back has connections for 4,8, or 16 ohm speakers, a speaker on/off switch and a phasing switch.  The base is included with rubber feet, but no cabinet is provided. The rated ouptu of these amps is about 12 watts per channel RMS , so effecient speakers are the best way to go.  Makes a great office or bedroom amp and with your iPod or CD it has very nice sound.

Shipping is $39.95 via FED EX Home in the US.

About me

I have been involved with electronics for over 45 years. I have written a number of articles concerning restoration, repair and building custom audio amplifiers, and speakers for AudioXpress. I am always interested in helping others with vintage equipment. My interest is in preserving and promoting the use of vintage stuff. Much of the equipment that was built in the 50's, 60's and 70's represents some of America's best and with careful restoration serve for another 50 years, plus sound better than most stuff foreign built today.

 I offer a restoration service for select audio brands including Heathkit, Dynaco and McIntosh. I deal in all kinds of vintage items but primarily restore tube equipment. I have been building custom tube amps for over 20 years and can build just about what ever you would like. I offer some of my own collections occasionally, as well as the restored gear.  I buy trade and sell vintage audio equipment
