I think that this book is something that all kids need to read. I read it when I was young and now I am looking to have my first little one read it. It was published in 1961 (years before I was even born), but it still is a good solid book. It has large print and 43 different stories. The book features the good old fashioned pictures that still bring a smile to my face. Some stories are just for fun, others have moral lessons that little kids can pick up on.
Sometimes the old ways are the best ways! Ya gotta love these books! They make learning to read: simple, fun & less stressful! I learned to read using these books & I was very excited to find them for my kids. It's more than just nostalgia setting in. These books really do offer simple, easy passages that teach kids to read.
Good educational reading for children .These books were around when I went to Elementary School. I’m 57 years old and when I realized that I could get them on EBay I was wanting to get something me of them for my grandchildren.

I bought this to help my son with fundamental early phonics and reading skills. I love the simplicity and opportunity these books lend to building a very young reader's confidence. Only dislike is my son's response was less enthusiastic--he wasn't too thrilled with the nostalgic illustrations and the subject matter seemed hard for him to get excited about. Overall, good for teaching basic reading...not something to purchase if you're trying to get a child really excited about reading.
Oh, I was impressed with this little book. Can hardly wait until my grandchildren come . This is like the book that I learned to read from, in first grade. I was always anxious to get to my school to hear what Dick and Jane did that day. I would recommend this for everyone.
