Rare Wolverine Sandy Andy Caterpillar Tractor Sand Toy

I am pleased to offer for auction a Sandy Andy Caterpillar Tractor toy by Wolverine.  Made of pressed steel with large gear wind up mechanism on bottom and on/off lever on top.  Great litho on top read "Sandy Andy Caterpillar Tractor" and detailed graphics of gauges on side.  "Seat" of tractor has removable lid.  Marked "Made Only By Wolverine Supply & Mfg. Co., Pittsburgh, PA  USA".  Measures 10" long and is 4 1/2" wide.

Wolverine was founded in 1903 and incorporated in 1906.  Wolverine's early toys were set in motion by the weight of sand or marbles.  These popular toys were usually designed to unload sand from an elevated hopper.  These types of toys were called "Sandy Andy".  In 1918, Wolverine's line expanded to include girls toys that were introduced at the New York Toy Fair in March of that year including such toys as tea sets, wash tubs, and sand pails.  Sand toys, relatively unchanged from the early 1900's, were still being sold into the 1950's.

Toy in good condition considering age.  Wind up mechanism needs repair.  Does not include original trailer attachment.  Displays nicely and would be a great piece for collecting or restoration.
