IRC 1933 Chicago World’s Fair Skycraper Radio – Telechron 700 "Green Plaskon" Case An extraordinary all original and super rare International Radio Corporation “1933 Chicago World’s Fair” radio; This radio uses a telechron 700 skyscraper cabinet, not the common brown bakelite but the very rare green plaskon; the chassis looks very much like the Kadette 2-tube junior, the dial location is different; I have no idea how many of these special sets were made but it’s a beauty. The speaker gril is a gold wire mess with the initials “IRC”and a great brass tag celebrating the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. All original right down to the cord and back; set has ALL the original brass trim pieces; radio is not currently working, the original cord and end plug will be included (removed) but the radio needs to be professionally serviced for safety; The chassis is very tight on this set. If you choose to get it serviced I would not recommend running it for long periods in fear of heat damage to the plaskon case; there are currently no tube burns, just a few typical plaskon hairlines common on all the green Telechron plaskon skyscrapers. Please view photos; selling as-is with no returns; shipping will be $25. Including insurance, USA only please; thank you On Dec-04-11 at 07:55:00 PST, seller added the following information: I have added 5 more pictures including the chassis removed from the cabinet. Please note that the cord has been removed, there is a connector socket with prongs that fit right into the radios chassis. One of the prongs is separated since the connection piece has a broken part at the end of the cord. this is visible in the picture with the cord still attached. Also, as mentioned earlier these plaskon telechron cases are never perfect and have several thin hairlines, mainly at the bottom (see photos) and around the grill. I also noticed a very small chip at the tip of the outer left side trim (right above the thin brass section). My initial pictures were taken some time ago and I honestly did not remember this chip. All the brass trim is original and complete which is quite rare for any telechron skyscraper case. This case could be used to perfectly fit the telechron clock if desired but the front cutouts are obviously different. I hope this helps, please continue to contact me with any additional questions...thanks! On Dec-05-11 at 04:29:05 PST, seller added the following information: I have had many e-mails from collectors on this wonderful radio. Being a very small collector of antique radios, my historical knowledge is limited compared to many collectors. I do believe that this IRC radio was very limited being a Commemorative "Chicago World's Fair" Skyscraper edition. The problem is I can’t find ANY information of this set, even the big time collectors out there can find NO other example in existence. I feel certain that this is NOT a reproduction but want to be sure before selling it as such. I may decide to remove this listing today. If you have any information on this set please contact me. Also, I have been contacted by another interested person who has been unable to bid, getting blocked so I would need to clear this up with e-bay before re-listing anyway. Thanks for your understanding... |
