Rare Antique Simon & Halbig/H.Handwerck Bisque Head Black Doll Fully Jointed

This is an adorable and extremely rare Heinrich Handwerck bisque head child doll with Mulatto Negroid features.

Darling face with a light brown complexion, very sweet expression with a delicate speck on right cheek, open mouth with red lips, four upper porcelain teeth, brown glass sleeping eyes, delicately painted upper and lower eyelashes, black painted over molded eyebrows and pierced ears. Original short black curly mohair wig and cardboard pate.

She is on her original full jointed chocolate brown composition and wood German Waltershausen child body. Dressed in her complete factory original sailor style outfit with salmon cotton low waist pleaded dress with black square back collar flap and neck tie, black cotton sash, white cotton pantaloons, straw hat, black socks and black leather shoes with silk rosette trims.

Head is incised on back "Germany // Heinrich // Handwerck // SIMON & HALBIG // 0". Made in Germany by Heinrich Handwerck. Head by Simon & Halbig, circa 1910's.

14-½ inches (36.8 cm) height.

Almost flawless head with no cracks or hairlines. There is a tiny rub to the tip of nose. There were a couple of minute chips around ears piercing that have been professionally restored. Body has been completely repainted in the past and now it has some paint flakes here and there (see pictures #14 and #15.) Sparse wig. Straw hat may be a later replacement. She needs to be restrung. Otherwise, very fine overall condition.

Absolutely cute and desirable bisque head doll, would make a very important addition to any bisque doll or black Americana collection!
