I had chosen to Buy a Hush noise suppressor because of a single coil guitar rig I was using for the current band I was in. Due to the nature of the music we were playing, I decided that a little less "hum" in my signal would be helpful during the quieter parts of the music. I had heard good things about the Rocktron Hush pedal, so I had decided to give it a whirl. My overall opinion is that it is a great pedal whenever extreme cases of hum threaten to destroy your sound. If you have an atypical type of single coil rig, the effects of the pedal are not worth the amount of tone coloration that occur whenever the pedal is activated. I was slightly unhappy with my tone when used. I had found that I had to turn the threshold up significantly to get the desired results, and in doing so it effected the sound of the attack on the strings - that's not to say that it doesn't have it's applications (high gain distortion settings - noisy effects in your signal chain). I'm happy that I have the pedal (as I'm sure it will get it's use from time to time), but it is not a regular part of my chain of pedals. I would be cautious in recommending this pedal to someone who is only slightly unhappy with the amount of "hum" in their signal.Read full review
I recently bout a Rocktron Hush pedal for my son. When I added it to my pedals and tried it out, it killed my tone and acted like a noise gate set way to high, although it was on the minimal setting. I was using a 15watt Crate Palomino, which is a great tube amp, along with some old school analog peadals. I was worried that it was a bad purchase. I gave the pedal to my son anyhow, and let him make the decision on wether to keep it or not. When he plugged it into my 40 watt Fender Hotrod Deluxe with his pedals (Boss Metal Core and digital delay), it was awesome. It cleaned up all of the extra noise and fuzz you get with some distortion pedals, but you don't know it's there until you use this pedal. The Hush pedal also works great on his Peavey Valveking half stack. Overall THIS PEDAL IS AWESOME, but not for every rig. You have to decide for yourself if it will benefit your sound. Maybe my 15w amp and pedals didn't produce enough buzz and fuzz for it to work properly. Also, connect this pedal after your distortion pedals, but before any delay pedals. That's pretty important.Read full review
I live in a very old house and record up on the third floor, so radio waves often disrupt the signal from instrument to pedal(s) to amp to interface. There's a good deal of buzzing, and DJ's voices and music can be heard when I record some of my stuff. I read some reviews on line of the Rocktron Hush and, based on what I read, decided it would be a good purchase but was worried that the some of the high and mid EQ's would be compromised. This pedal works really well. The buzz/noise is stopped pretty much completely. And I don't notice any change at all in the sound of the guitar; it might make it a bit warmer but that's it. This is a great piece of equipment; very glad I bought it.
I am having great results cleaning up a single coil pickup equipped signal chain. I run it after my wah pedal and my overdrive unit. It works great!
