Upon first glance, this looks like a hum-drum oversized postcard from Tucumcari, NM somewhere off Route 66. But on back is where you find the GOLD. Any fan of the TV Series RAWHIDE probably knows that some of the filming for the show took place near Tucumcari, NM. Which explains why the cast of the series would sign such an object! Clint Eastwood is NOT included in the collection of signatures on this card, but he is about the only one from the series you could still have a chance of getting. Here is a list of the signatures included:
Eric Fleming - Gil Favor - died 1966 Paul Brinegar - Wishbone - died 1995 Sheb Wooley - Pete Nolan - died 2003 (also famous for song "Purple People Eater") Steve Raines - Jim Quince - died 1996 Rocky Shahan - Joe Scarlett - died 1981 John Cole - Bailey - unknown if / when died Milan Smith - Kyle Jeffers - unknown if / when died (only in 1959 - 1960 episodes) Claude Akins - Jim Lark, Clete Manson, Karse, Gus Marsden, Sergeant Parker, Aloysius Claybank, Jerry Boggs - died 1994 (only in 7 or 8 episodes from 1960 - 1965) Rick Arnold - Rick - 1 episode - Incident of the Judas Trap (1959) (was stuntman in several movies like How The West Was Won) Jack Dusick - Make-up Artist - died 1970
Other names or characters written but which I know nothing about:
Tony Lombardi? (printed name) Jimmy Cheshire? (not sure of name) Pee Wee? Blackie Wrangler? Johnny Green? (or Greer?)
Dated circa 1959 / 1960. By deduction you can see that Milan Smith was only in episodes from 1959 and 1960, and Claude Akins guest starred in 7 episodes from 1960 to 1964. This document has both of their signatures and the only common date for both actors was 1960 (year of episode airing on TV). An actor / stuntman named Rick Arnold was credited in one episode that aired in June, 1959 and his signature is on this as well. My belief is that this was signed during the spring or summer of 1959 while the crew was in Tucumcari, NM. So this would be early in the series history. Size of card is approximately 6" x 9".
How did you arrive at your asking price? Like any other collectible where the value is subjective, comparisons of similar items must be made. In this case there is virtually no data available on such an item. So then one must look at items that are close in rarity and genre. Having multiple signature on one single document of one of the most famous Westerns in TV history is a hard thing to find to say the least. Then add the fact that just about everyone is dead and the rarity / value is increased. Eric Fleming, who played Gil Favor on the series died a tragic death way back in 1966 while on location for a movie. Take all of these matters into account and look at somewhat comparable items from online dealers and you can arrive at a suggested price.
Is your price negotiable? Of course. I live in the real world. If you want to guarantee that you will get this extremely rare item, use the "Buy It Now" button and pay the asking price.
Can you guarantee that this is real? Yes, I have been in the paper collectibles business for over 20 years and a collector for over 40 years. My reputation is on the line with everything I sell. Check my feedback on eBay if you have any doubts. I have been selling here since 1997.
Where did you get it? From a local estate in Fort Worth, TX.
My original plan was to spend a little money for a cast photo and a nice frame and really have a jaw-dropper. But I decided to leave that to the lucky buyer because who knows if you'd like the frame I would pick. If you have any questions not answered in my FAQ, please email.
